It was Eric's second month on guard patrol for a somewhat large prison. You probably wouldn't get lost but there was plenty of walking. It was easy money... boring as all Hell, but the pay more than made up for it. Eric didn't know much about the prison. Truth be told, everyone including higher management, kept tight lips. He had asked a couple of times when he started for more details but the response was typically the same. "Nothing to worry about" "Don't worry about it" "Just do your rounds and stay awake." This prison was quite suspect... but he got paid when he was supposed to.
"Hey, Eric!" A co-worker called out.
"...Oh, hey." Eric called back... He didn't know the fella's name. There were plenty of other guards, the only name he had memorized was the one he reported to. His anti-social behavior didn't affect him too much in this field.
So far the night was more of the same. Boring, monotonous, and a bit cold. Eric, with his flashlight, made his rounds as time passed.
Beep Beep Beep
The loud alarms shook Eric out of his auto-piloted walk. Those alarms couldn't be good... maybe some idiot elbowed a button.
Eric continued along, the alarm working on giving him a migraine...
5 minutes later...
Beep Beep Beep
The alarms had to stop... Eric was getting worried. Eric started to make his way towards the main security room. The lights in the room where on... and the door was open. Not normal... the door was always closed, the guy who handled monitors likely kept a porno mag as he "watched" over the screens.
Eric walked into the room. "...Hey, what the Hell's..."
There was a man out cold on the ground... maybe dead. Eric panicked, walked backwards out where he came, eyes not leaving the downed coworker.
Eric's walk turned into a fast paced jog as he exited. He had to find someone... and he did.
There was another body laid out onto the ground...
"Holy..." Eric gasped.
His jog turned into a run...
Eric ran down the corridor looking for anyone. He turned a corner... before he knew it... he was next.
Two arms had him in a choke. Just like that, he was fading quick. He never stood a chance, nor did any other poor sap that worked here. Never got to see what had even happened. What had gone wrong...
The arms, of course, didn't let up. Eric knew what was coming and started to panic, clawing at the arms... to no effect.
