"Why don't you tell me what sort of problems you've been having?"
Melissa leaned back in her chair and crossed her legs as she looked across the room at her newest clients. Whitney, 29, and her husband Casey, 28, had recently come to Melissa for marriage counseling and today was their first session.
"Well our marriage has been rather strained lately," Whitney explained.
"That's an understatement," Casey said, eliciting an annoyed glance from his wife.
"Anyway," Whitney continued. "We're both still committed to working things out ... we just need a bit of help."
Melissa smiled. "Well you've come to the right woman. Now, how about you tell me a bit about yourselves?"

Many minutes later, Melissa had a clear picture of her new clients. Both Whitney and Casey were college educated with so far successful business careers. However, those careers meant they didn't have much time for each other. Melissa suspected that's was the source of tension in their relationship, but there wasn't a simple fix for it.
Melissa looked over at Whitney. She was a relatively attractive blonde currently wearing a stylish floral-print blouse, a pair of skinny-fit jeans that complimented her decent figure, and a pair of black boots with a 2-inch heel. Casey wasn't bad looking either. Looking him over, Melissa determined he was a decently handsome dark-haired man. His outfit consisted of a red button-down shirt, a pair of comfy black jeans, and a pair of work boots.
"It seems to me that you two simply need to find more common ground with each other, discover more mutual interests, and make the most of your time together," Melissa finally addressed her clients. "With your busy careers you aren't spending enough time together. You both want to do that, but you also want to explore your own interests as well. The problem is neither of you is putting enough effort into understanding the other's interests. That's where I come in. I think I have just the treatment plan in mind."
