Chapter #4

Vacancy?

    by: Mindovermatter Author IconMail Icon
Much of the rest of the day for Evan was spent unpacking the remainder of his belongings. It was well into the evening when everything was in its proper place. Everything, that is, except for the three small packages sitting on his kitchen counter.

Seeing how beaten up and battered the packages were, Evan thought he'd be doing whoever lived in 701 a favor by holding on to them until they got home to make sure they didn't get damaged even more. Periodically throughout the day, Evan peeked his head out into the hallway to see if the resident of 701 had made it home yet. Not once did Evan hear any fur make their way down that part of the long hallway or interact with the door.

One final time for the night, Evan looked out into the hallway in the direction of 701. This time, however, the door was ajar. The lion grabbed the three boxes and made his way to the unit. Knocking on the door, it swung open slightly. No lights were on inside.

"Hello? Uh, Daniel? I've got some packages for you!" Evan hollered into the apartment. No response came. He felt around for a switch by the door and found one. He flicked it, illuminating the apartment. The unit was mostly empty. Evan slowly stepped inside to investigate. Nothing was there. No furniture, no dishes, nothing left in the cupboards. The only things that were left were some trash scattered on the floor and a few sheet of notebook paper with illegible writing scrawled on it.

Convinced that the apartment had been abandoned, Evan returned to his own. Setting the packages back into the counter, he looked at them and pondered what to do next. They all came from Episteme Labs, specifically the Zaftig City branch. They might have a division here in Port Zaftig. If so, Evan could drop them off there and they'd certainly be in safe hands. But the lion was also curious what the packages held. The boxes looked pretty rough and it wouldn't take much to open them up and peek inside. And why not? If whoever lived in 701 didn't bother to stick around for them, what would be the problem with Evan checking what's inside?

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Contact Episteme Labs

2. Open up the packages

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
