Journey to Sarnoval Ch 1 Pt 2

    by: metra Author IconMail Icon
“I did,” The wolf replied confirming that it was indeed capable of talking. Ray noted that the voice was feminine. Strong and powerful, but definitely feminine. “I’d like to apologize about last night, unfortunately I wasn’t in my right state of mind and I’m sure that I must’ve looked like a wild animal from your point of view.”

Ray’s expression changed from awe to annoyance as he recalled the events that led up to that morning, “That would be putting it mildly to say the least. I thought I was going to die, and as far as I know… I still might.” The hybrid’s ears flinched and her tail dropped as she displayed what seemed to be… regret? Remorse? It was hard to tell with something that wasn’t human, but there was definitely enough there to make out that she wasn’t happy.

“I truly am sorry… But I really couldn’t help it…” She then paused as though a thought had struck her, but she seemed hesitant to share it. Ray watched her carefully as she moved towards him once more, “Has your arm healed yet?” She inquired.

Ray looked at her suspiciously before giving his reply, “As a matter of fact… it has…”

The hybrid nodded, seemingly satisfied with his reply, “Good, it means the process is well underway.”

The human flinched upon hearing her rebuttal, “What process?” He demanded, doing his best to keep fear and anger out of his voice.

The wolf smiled apologetically, “It’s a bit of a long and slightly confusing story…”

Ray stood up and crossed his arms while meeting her purple eyes with an even and deadpan expression, “Well it’s not like I have anything else to do. And I can’t just pretend like last night just didn’t happen and go about my routine, especially with you standing here in front of me! I mean… what are you anyway? A wolf? A tiger? Or both? Because honestly, you look like both, but last time I checked, tiger wolf hybrids weren’t even a thing, and even if they were they certainly wouldn’t be able to talk!”

The creature chuckled at the human’s response leading him to assume that she found his confusion somewhat amusing, “Actually,” She started, “I’m neither. In fact, I’m not even from this world.” Ray stared at her trying to piece together what he was hearing. His brow furrowed while his lips quirked into a quizzical expression as he tried to decipher what his newfound acquaintance was trying to tell him. “I’m from a planet called Sarnoaval. I fell to this planet last night and landed in a zoo in a nearby city. It just so happened that I landed between the tiger and wolf exhibits and ended up taking this mixed form you see now.” Ray’s face was totally blank as he tried to comprehend and process what he was hearing. He was talking to an alien that had taken a hybrid form of a tiger and wolf. Words seemed to flee from him as he struggled to find something to say. His conversational partner seemed to sense that he was feeling a bit overwhelmed and gave him a sympathetic smile, “I know it must be difficult for you to grasp,” She admitted, “But it is necessary for you to understand what I’m going to tell you next.”

Ray shook his head and ran a hand through his hair, “Yeah, that’s just kind of… wow? And maybe a little… yeah…”

“Would you like me to continue,” She asked as she tilted her head to the side.

         “Um, actually… I have a question.”

“I thought you might, ask whatever you like,” She replied.

Ray nodded before asking what had stuck in his mind after her initial explanation, “You said you fell to earth. How did you even get here? I mean, didn’t you have a ship or something? And why did you have to take an alternate form to begin with?”

The Sarnoavan nodded, “Both fair questions,” She replied, “To answer the first one, no. I did not come in a ship. I suppose ‘fell’ isn’t the proper word, but it still seems like the most appropriate. I was actually launched from my home world to earth with a sort of matter transporting device. It works kind of like a slingshot. But to survive being literally hurled through space and crashing onto another planet, the device converts the matter into a sort of ‘shadow jelly’.”

The human blinked in confusion at the explanation, “If you have the technology to do all that, why not make it put you back together in the same form that you were in originally?”

“That would have been safer and strictly speaking, we do devices that are designed to do just that. However, we didn’t have access to our standard technology because we’re fugitives,” She explained.

Ray raised an eyebrow, “Fugitives? So then, you’re a criminal?”
