This choice: Check out Weiss's outfits. • Go Back...Chapter #5Explore Her New Wardrobe by: Zone   “Well, they’re my clothes now,” Ruby half sang, kicking off the boots and bounding to the closest. “I’ve always wanted to do this.”
Digging through Weiss’s clothes was much less enjoyable than she thought it would be. So many of her clothes looked the same in varying shades of blue and white. It was mostly dresses, but there were a few long sleeve tops to go with her combat skirts. Ruby was glad her partner understood the importance of those, unlike Yang. She pushed aside a few nightgowns and skimmed through the underwear.
Does Weiss really not get anything in any other color? Ruby thought and then shrugged. She wasn’t that different. Most of Ruby’s clothes were red and black, though she did have some other colors. Her pajama bottoms were white with roses on them. Giving up on trying to find some special hidden outfit Weiss was hiding from her, she turned toward the shoes. Why does she need so many? Nearly all of them have heals. There was a pair of slippers that, to her relief, lacked them.
Ruby glanced over her shoulder anxiously. The remote changed reality to make all the shoes hers, but that didn’t change the fact if she had been caught doing what she was going to do normally, Weiss would not have been happy. Like, less happier than usual.
“Looks at me,” Ruby mocked though not with any ill intent. “I like wearing…woah… lady stilts to feel taller and look down at people.” She stumbled and nearly fell over. The shoes she was wearing was one of Weiss’s fancy high heels. With almost no support except a thin stick in the back, Ruby nearly fell over every third step. “How does she walk in these, let alone fight?” She closed her eyes and then frowned.
If she stopped moving like she normally did, her body seemed to know what to do. Her next step was perfectly aligned to avoid any chance of slipping. So was the next one, and the next one. Ruby opened her eyes and focused on the feeling. Her body was acting like she had been wearing heels her entire life. The remote had done more than just swap clothes. It swapped the ability to wear clothes.
At least, that’s what Ruby believed.
She jumped when she heard someone unlocked the door and bolted toward her desk, kicking the heels far in the corner to hide them. This was pointless on her part, as everyone considered them her shoes, but in her defense, she just swapped. Her panic overshowed logic. Ruby just managed to sit at her desk, grab a book and rip it open, before Weiss walked into the room. She turned around to act like she had been studying to find Weiss staring at her.
“Wow,” Weiss stated, looking surprised. “I didn’t expect you to actually be studying.”
“What did you expect?” Ruby asked innocently, as Weiss walked toward her. Besides Ruby’s clothes, she was exactly the same. The way she moved her hips when she walked, the air of importance, everything. Her clothes just had more color.
“To walk in on you playing a game of some kind,” Weiss answered and leaned over Ruby’s shoulder. “Or maybe have your book open to the wrong chapter? One we haven’t covered yet?” Ruby blinked and looked down.
Her book was four chapters ahead of where they were in class.
“I was just… reading ahead?” Ruby lied lamely.
“You, Ruby Rose, who can barely sit reading a text book longer than Nora or Arc, was reading ahead.” Weiss stared at Ruby with her arms crossed. Seconds ticked by in silence and Ruby diverted her eyes. “That’s what I thought.” Weiss sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose. When she next spoke, her words were a little softer and understanding. “Listen, Ruby. Even if you weren’t the team leader, education is important. You need to study to get ahead, even as a hunter. Doctor Oobleck explained that to us countless times.”
“I know,” Ruby admitted. “But I really don’t like it and everything else just seems funner.”
“More fun,” Weiss corrected her sternly. “Of course it is. You think there wouldn’t be things I would like to do over studying? But I don’t because as an adult, you have to distinguish between your wants and needs.”
“You want to have fun?” Ruby gasped and Weiss narrowed her eyes.
“Funny, almost as good as Yang’s jokes.” Ruby looked like she had just been slap. Saying she wasn’t even as funny as her unfunny sister was below the belt. “How about this? If you can study until we meet up with Yang and Blake for dinner, afterwards, I’ll spar a bit with you and we can try out those new electric dust rounds you got.”
“Really?” Ruby pointed at her dramatically. “No take backs.”
“I won’t. If you hold up your end of the bargain.” Weiss sat down at her desk and picked up her Scroll.
I’ll show you, Ruby thought triumphantly and turned her book to the correct chapter. It only took five minutes for Ruby to groan at how boring this was. She was ready to give up, but caught Weiss’s watching her with a mix of smugness and superiority. I can do this! I have to show her I can. Another few minutes passed and Ruby’s mind began to wander.
Under it fell on the remote.
Another swap won’t hurt, Ruby thought, her hand clenched tightly on the device. A Body Swap might be fun and technically I returned the clothes to the right bodies. She giggled under her breath. Oooo, what about a Life Swap? I could live as Weiss while she tries to study as me. Maybe figure out all her secrets or why she’s so grumpy. Personal Info might also be cool. If I switch our intelligence, I won’t have to study as much. She can be the ‘dunce.’
