Katie saw one of the signs pointing to "Springs", and weighed up her options; Stacey wasn't likely to investigate what was, presumably, an abandoned barn and an empty greenhouse, but some natural springs would probably have caught her attention. Katie and Stacey had even visited some springs before on hiking weekends and really enjoyed the experience. Katie decided to head that way, and started jogging along the path in the direction the sign had pointed.
The garden was even eerier than the house; a fine layer of mist seemed to cover everything in sight, barely revealing anything more a a few feet in front of Katie. It occurred to her that this expedition would have been much easier in daylight, but who knew what might happen in that time. Any time spent not looking for Stacey was time wasted in Katie's eyes.
The path ahead narrowed, and Katie found herself heading down a winding set of steps. The sound of running water filled the air as Katie pushed through what seemed to be the last of the mist and into a clearing with a two small, round pools of hot, bubbling spring-water. Katie's jaw dropped open at the beautiful sight. If people knew these were here, she suspected this house would be a popular tourist attraction rather than a forgotten curiosity.
As she moved towards the edge of the hot spring, Katie's attention was drawn to a large statue to one side. It was a large, bronze rendering of a woman with a huge, spherical belly. Pregnant, Katie assumed. It was surprisingly clean, looking almost brand new.
Katie turned back to the springs, and was almost tempted to put her foot in the pool...
