At a certain hardware store known as Wilkos, it had been dreary, quiet morning so far. Being a few miles off from the highschool and the park neither scream nor news of the blue light had quite reached this far into Rotherham.
There were but two employees present, Emma and Elizabeth, and they did not expect anyone else for at least ten minutes, maybe more. This was routine for them, each morning, they'd come by early to nip some of the more egregious forms of paperwork at the bud. Then they'd retire to Emma's office and wait for their underlings to trickle in. At the moment, the lights were off and they quietly sipped on cups of chamomile tea.
"...Even now, I find myself at a loss. Alice just locks herself in her room." Emma shook her head. "And on top of that, she always has her face buried in her phone."
Elizabeth gave a non-committal shrug. "She's a teenager, it's normal for them to act like that." Business as usual. Alice had once been a sweet angel, but has picked up many bad habits as of late.
Soon, the young lady would be picking up many more bad habits.
From Emma's pockets came a reverberating gonging sound. The two women glanced to each other.
"Wonder who could that be?" Emma flipped open her phone. Alice.
"Hello, Alice, what- Slow down! And talk louder, I cant hear you over that-" Emma narrowed her eyes. "What are you saying? I don't understand? Aliens? Blue light? What do you- I still don't understand. Are you talking about one of your video- No, start from the top again. What was this about blue light? And what does 'circumcision' have to do with-"
Elizabeth merely checked her watch. Teenagers were truly complicated beasts.
