Atria didn’t know how long she’d been running. Alley after alley, road after road, they all seemed the same to her. She could still hear the footsteps of her stalkers following her, they were not screaming and shouting but silently chasing her like the noiseless assassins they were. She vaulted a wall without breaking her stride, clearing the 10 foot brick structure with ease.
She continued to run, looking for a place to hide. I her right she saw the perfect site, pulling open the automatic doors and ducking behind a display showing off tins of dog food with new and improved recipes! She peeked behind and breathed a sigh of relief as she saw the trio of heavies continue to look for her down the street. “Uh, hm.”
Atria looked up to see a middle aged earthling staring down at her condescendingly. She’s of the ‘female’ classification, Atria noted as she observed the woman’s small stature, sagging breasts and lack of a bulge in her skirt. “What are YOU doing to MY dog food?! Can’t you see that we are CLOSED!”
Atria was extremely offended; she may have been a fugitive on her home planet but she’d never been disrespected like this. ”If you’re so possessive of this gruel, why don’t YOU eat it?!” Atria spoke, altering the wavelength of her vocal chords as she activated her charmspeak. Emma’s blue eyes went glossy as she suddenly felt compelled to snack on the dog food. She robotically swiped a can of Canine Crunchies and tore the lid off, chomping on the liver and turkey heart flavoured treats as if it was a regular occurrence.
Atria smiled. Luckily her charmspeak had been reactivated upon her escape. She just hoped that her swapping and morphing abilities had also returned so that she could at least have a little fun while she was laying low. “Who are you? And where is this place?” Atria asked.
Emma was snarfing down the kibble by the handfuls and managed to squeeze in between loads, “I’m Emma, the- MMH! The store manager, and this place is- OH! SO GOOD! This place is Wilko, rated best supermarket/ hardware store in Rotherham! Mmh...”
Atria nodded as she looked outside for a sign the men were circling back. “I need a place to stay for the foreseeable future- well, at least until those guys give up. So I require a home and some kind of task to do during the day. I’ve been sealed in an impenetrable cage for the last 14 cycles and I need to stretch my legs.”
Emma forked some more dog food into her mouth as she looked up. The charmspeak was incredibly effective on those who were deemed to be weak-minded individuals. Poor Emma was helpless to it and carried on shovelling more tinfuls into her gob. “You can stay at my home. I’m sure Kyle and Alice won’t mind (they’re so considerate!). As for the task, I could give you a job here at Wilko if you want me to.”
“Perfect...” Atria was about to cackle maniacally but she was interrupted by Emma’s loud slurping. “Calm down, you can choke.” As if a switch had been flipped inside her head Emma stopped, placed down the dog food and escorted Atria off the premises. “Tomorrow is going to be... fun...” Atria cackled finally as she imagined the mischief she could get up to.
