“Look,” you said, addressing the reflection. “This is still really weird for me, let alone believing this is all real. So, can we take this a little bit slower?”
That’s no fun, your reflection gave a pouting face. But I’m not exactly in a position to argue. What did you have in mind?
“I...Don’t know. Maybe doing it piece by piece every so often so that I can get used to it? I’d like to get comfortable in my own skin, especially if it’s really going to change me.”
Suit yourself. You know where to find me when you’re ready.
You breathed a deep sigh of relief and removed the necklace, watching the image of the girl morph and shift as she returned to your own shape. After a few moments of watching, you were staring back at yourself. Completely normal again, save for your much smoother skin.
As you sat up, you found the smoothness of your legs were only highlighted. If you had any idea that constant moisturizing and caretaking of your skin could result in such a comfortable feeling. Maybe your reflection really was onto something.
The break gave you a moment to think matters over a little bit.
You liked the idea of doing this transformation piecemeal, it allowed you to adjust and process everything new. Walking around in your new skin made you appreciate it that much more and you couldn’t deny that you were at least a little bit curious what would happen next. But when your mom came back home with a particularly grumpy Caitlyn, you were having second thoughts. How might your family react to your new body? You were lucky you just moved and didn’t have many friends yet, it would be less to explain to them. But to your mom and sister, it was going to be an awkward conversation to have.
It was later that night after dinner that you finally returned to your bedroom, locking the door and grabbing the amulet left within your nightstand. You slipped it over your neck and did the clasps as your reflection morphed again.
Finally, said your reflection as the girl returned. So, are we ready to go all the way? I was right, wasn’t I? You like being different.
“I’m not going to deny that,” you replied. “But I’m just a little cautious about all this. How am I going to explain it to my family.”
Please. Your mom is always been open minded and Caitlyn would love to have an older sister.
“Even if that was all true…”
Look, if you’re really nervous, then why don’t you ask Cleo tomorrow for any tools she might have in disguising things from them so that they don’t notice. Or that they’ve always seen you as such?
That was true, you hadn’t thought of that.
“Okay, that’s a good plan,” you decided, reaching for the clasp of your necklace
Hang on! While you’re here, you said you wanted to do this piecemeal, right? Well, why don’t we do the next step then? Something small and easy.
The thought was strangely tempting as you gulped and pondered what you might be able to alter next before cooling your expectations. You still weren’t sure about your family situation, so best to pick something they wouldn’t notice. Or something they couldn't see.
You opened your mouth and replied to the reflection.
“Let’s do…”
