This choice: Volke delivers them safely • Go Back...Chapter #7Volke delivers them safely! by: Krashify After a long uneventful ride, the tiny women feel the horse slow to a stop as Volke jumps off. Volke sneaks to the tree line, following it to a space in front of the fort.
“Alright, we’re here, Tor Garen, the wall on the border of Daein.” Volke boomed from outside the box “This is as far as I can go without risking detection from the wyvern riders above. There’s no chance they’ll see you from up there however, so you’ll have to walk the rest of the way”
He lowered the box to the ground, slowly tilting it as the tiny woman climbed out of the box and took stock of the sheer size of their environment.
Before them stood a large expanse of snowy plains, leading to a monolithic fortress that stretched high into the sky. On their left, a giant staircase ascended to a large open door flanked by two statue-sized guards, what Titania assumed to be the main entrance. On their right, a small forest of trees lead hugged the wall of the fortress.
Titania looked towards the sky and noticed gargantuan scaled beasts, the size of castles to her, circling far above in the distance. The size of the distant wyverns truly terrifying to the tiny women.
“Everything looks so much bigger now, it’s still hard to adjust…” Lucia said
“We’ll have to get used to it, we’re going to see a lot more giants inside.” Titania replied “Although we’ll aim to avoid them where we can”
“Umm… Titania?” Nephenee meekly approached
“Yes, Nephenee? What’s the matter?” Titania responded
“I know we’re going to infiltrate the fort… But do we know where to go?” Nephenee continued
“Our goal will be to grow back and strike from within, taking out the commanding officers when we find a suitable area to grow back with Ilyana. We will have to discover the layout and navigate our way as we go though. Although we can make an educated guess as to where the leaders of this fort might be.” Titania explained
“Where will we enter from?” Tanith questioned
“From what I’ve scouted out, there’s three main entries at your size.” Volke informed the tiny women, “There’s the main entrance with the large stairs off to the left, where the main guards are. Next there’s a wall that provides an opening that looks to connect to the rafters inside, and it’s in front of the woods which will be our rendezvous point. Finally, there’s the enticing option of going through the sewers. Not as pretty an option, but it will be an unguarded entry that will lead within the fort.
“Entering through the front door, even at this size, might pose some risk” Titania commented “Plus those stairs will prove an arduous mountain to climb, so to speak. But it would be the most simple route, and we can avoid the stairs by traversing the snow to the sides.”
“It might be best to find the opening in the wall, either option means we’re in for a bit of a climb, but we’ll have a better vantage point once we get inside.” Tanith pointed out
“Plus it would be nice to be safe above the guards in the halls.” Sigrun added
“It’s a very windy area, which means our tiny size means we might get caught up in a breeze, creating a problem if we get high up and blown off course…” Lucia added
The woman shiver as a strong breeze blows past, almost as if on cue.
“The safest option seems to be the sewers…” Nephenee added. “We would avoid the wind and a massive climb too”
“I would prefer avoiding the uncleanliness of the sewers. Plus we might not be alone down there.” Tanith replied
Nephenee winced as she thought of the giant company they might run into in the sewers.
“On second thought, maybe that might not be the safest path…” She added
“The rest of the army will arrive in a few days, so you can either attack, then retreat or time your attack with the army.” Volke explained, “I’ll be waiting in the woods to the right of the entrance regardless, but I can’t go any further without alerting the sentries. so when you’re finished you can meet me there.”
“So, what option do you think would work best Titania?” Lucia asked.
The main entrance will lead to us getting caught, but gives us the most direct and simple path in. Titania thought, the wall will lead us to the rafters and will give us a good vantage point, but it’s very windy and risky to be high up. While the sewers will be uncomfortable, but should lead straight into the heart of the fort.
“Well, based on our situation” Titania began, “Our best bet is…”
