"Peppermint... uh... Squirrel?" She called out. Fuck. Your handwriting never was very neat.
"Seal? Swine? Uhmm... I'm afraid I can't quite make out that last word."
You raise your hoof.
"Uh.. It was me. Peppermint Swirl."
The unicorn looks down at the paper again.
"Ah, yes. Swirl. I suppose that's almost what it looks like. You win!"
You hear the crowd around you grumble and look around to you, clearly having never even heard of you before.
Rarity, meanwhile, grins down to you. "Please, darling, head inside. I'll just wrap things up out here."
You do as she says, heading towards the entrance to the boutique itself, turning back to see Rarity dispel the crowd.
"Show's over, folks. Unless, of course, you'd like to buy something in my new summer line? Starting at only 670 bits!"
They don't seem too interested, though, all splitting up and still visibly upset they weren't in your place.
"Oh, and don't forget I'm hosting an auction later this evening at Canterlot! I expect to see you all there!"
She then heads in after you, closing the front door to the shop behind her and letting out a heavy sigh, almost like a rock star heading backstage after a concert.
"Peppermint... Swirl, was it? It's nice to meet you! I'm Rarity, but I'm sure you already know that!"
Actually, you probably wouldn't know that if she hadn't told you, but you shake her hoof anyway.
"I don't believe I've seen you around Ponyville before - are you new?"
"Yeah. I just arrived today. I'm here to work with the Princess."
"Oh! Twilight? Yes, she did mention something about a new assistant... hm. I'm sure we can work some arrangement out so that you can still help me around here. She's a good friend."
You wondered if maybe you'd gotten yourself in a bit too deep; not only did you have absolutely zero expertise with dress-making or fashion, it could be a bit tricky being assistant to two ponies. Still, you were here now, so you had to make do.
"Anyway! I have the auction later, so there's much to do! Not a second to waste!"
She started heading upstairs but you called out to stop her.
"What... exactly is my job going to entail?"
She stared at you for a second. "Well, assisting me, of course. I have a lot to do to get ready and I need some help. Would you be a dear and grab a glass from the kitchen?" She pointed to a room off to your right.
"Uhm... I'm not exactly very experienced in dress-making."
She laughed. "Oh, heavens, no, you won't be making any dresses. No, no, you'll just be my personal assistant. Don't worry. It's about time for my lunch, so this is as good a time as any to give you a little test."
She continued up the stairs, pausing for just a moment, a quick flash of discomfort surfacing on her face.
"Actually... maybe grab a plate while you're at it."
With this she trotted upstairs, leaving you to get the plate and glass. You wondered why exactly she was going to eat upstairs, but didn't think too much of it.
Picking up a knife and fork as well just to be prepared, you headed upstairs, but immediately you were a little confused. There was no sign of Rarity anywhere.
The Upstairs of the building was an open-plan bedroom, only one door on the far side of the room which you could only assume led to the bathroom. There isn't even any table to speak of up here.
Just as you were about to try and look downstairs again, you heard a voice.
"Peppermint? Is that you? I'm here. Do be quick, won't you?"
You scanned around for the sound, suddenly freezing in shock as you realised the voice was coming from behind the bathroom door.
