Season one options

We can get to Cat eventually, for now we can at least do things within the season 1 timeframe.

Now I'm sure revan92 at the very least might be aware of this (being the only person I know for a fact reads my chapters as they usually add to them) but I have used purple and blue kryptonite as convenient Supergirl shrink material in the past, mostly because as far as I know neither of those 2 exist in the canon, or at least don't have established effects. I'm pointing this out because Superman and Supergirl have been shrunk before... but by Red Kryptonite.

While these days it seems to be an excuse to make Kara and Kal evil./dickheads (not that Kal needs help there) originally it was basically a Russian roulette of negative effects, shrinking being only one of them.

The point of this random thought process is: What if that's what happened when Kara got exposed to the Red K in season 1? Instead of going on a rampage after finally becoming assertive and then a bitch, she shrinks? How the kryptonite effects her; Fast (like most), slow (like in the show), potentially irreversible (for fun really :D), all up to the future writer (might be me, don't know at the time of writing this option)

Or we can toy with other scenarios within the limitations of season 1 (not a complaint, just a statement, setting something within a certain season limits some scenarios and characters, but also focuses the options available)
