This choice: PR Manager fattening her clients and herself up • Go Back... Jennifer Jade stepped out of the elevator with a spring in her step, anxious but eager. Counting off the room numbers as she sipped from her heavily sugared coffee, the bouncy young woman with librarian glasses and her long auburn locks styled like Farrah Fawcett found the double-wide doors that sported a fancy new brass nameplate.
Jennifer Jade
--
Public Relations Manager
She walked into the sparsely decorated waiting room stocked with benches and wide chairs, her office with the fancy wooden desk and the broad-backed chair visible through a back door. Not exactly the most elegant start to her career as a free agent, but definitely something she could work with. Setting down her drink, she went to pull the shades open, revealing the early morning sun reflecting off the high-rise buildings of the city. Admiring the view, Jade let out a soft chuckle when she saw where the perfume ad mounted on a billboard used to be; the ad had since been replaced, swapping out the seductive supermodel with a heavyset woman in the same outfit and pose, give or take a few hundred pounds. Definitely, pardon the pun, one of the biggest signs of the changing times.
The new social trend sweeping the world had a lot of names; the Weight Wave, the Gain, the Fat Fad, the Big and Beautiful Revolution if you were feeling dramatic. Whatever you called it, it was clear now that it was no mere passing fad but the new normal, the new standard of beauty and desire that everyone would need to adapt to. Jennifer certainly noticed it, even if her old white male bosses over at Mirror Image LTD dismissed it as a stupid internet gimmick, prompting the young and ambitious Jennifer to resign on the spot, eager to capitalize on this new social wave sweeping through society as an independent agent.
That was a month ago, and now the new movement was obvious to everyone scrambling to catch up. That, Jade decided, would be her golden ticket to success. Many young starlets and celebrities were eager to dive into this new Fattening Fad, but they needed someone to help them rebuild their public images from starved stick figures to big and beautiful bombshells. With a little luck, hard work, and copious amounts of donuts, Jade intended to be that someone.
She'd already done a good job on herself, she noticed as she caught her reflection in the window. Once a former track star in high school, the young woman managed to find the Freshman Fifteen she avoided in college and then some, sporting a chubby belly and thighs dangerously close to touching when she walked. Maybe it was the marketing getting to her, Jade thought, but she thought that she looked pretty good with a little extra fullness around the face.
"Somehow I get the feeling," she said to her extra-wide chair as she turned around and entered her office proper. "That you were a very wise investment."
Enough of that though, back to work. Jade had a busy day ahead of her. On top of contract negotiations between her soap opera star client and helping a social media star get through her rehab, she had some choice clients coming her way, specifically interested in her new service of helping them get better acclimated to the new normal, so to say. Going over her emails on her laptop as she sat down, she had a few choice selections as well.
The first was a classic case; Trisha Thompson, teenage sitcom star that fell from the limelight after her show went off the air and a few crappy B-movies tanked her post-child star career for good. Nowadays she was fairly popular on the gossip circles, but she's been eagerly following the new social trends and is looking to get back on stage with some big movie roles. Emphasis on "big".
Another choice client Heidi Jorgen, a big time tennis pro who'd been doing alright for herself before contacting you about wanting to make a career change that her old agent didn't approve of. With the new social changes, many sports leagues were looking to capitalize on the trend by founding new divisions for plus-sized women and above, and Heidi wanted to make the jump to the heavyweight leagues and take home the gold.
Then there was a real wildcard; Alexandra Perkins, or as most of the world knew her, Carnation, the lead singer of the all woman underground band Banshee. You attended one of their concerts with a friend and somehow managed to find an audience with the flighty and artistic frontwoman, who asked you for your help in "realizing the creative vision" for her next album. Jade didn't understand how that could involve her, but it did involve Carnation packing on some pounds so she figured she could take a swing at it.
Jade pondered her choices thoroughly, her mouse hovering over each name as she wondered who she'd take on for her first real assignment before settling on... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
