The two Strassermans, one far more relaxed than the other, entered the IngerCorp building and were immediately greeted by the low hum of an already busy workplace. Across the main lobby were various men and women in business suits hustling back and forth as they began their day, with several young and pretty female receptionists sitting behind the expansive front desk that had the company's name spelled out in front of it.
The building itself was a bit of a throwback to the 80s, though with modern sensibility and aesthetic over the somewhat retro architecture, but it radiated wealth and power regardless of its look. The lobby had no ceiling and instead lifted up several stories into the sky, and the building was easily the tallest structure in the business park that had grown up around it. And at the top was Ragnar Ingerman's office along with those of the rest of the executive team. And hanging down from the center of the atrium was a massive ornament that looked like it was made of dozens of huge crystal slabs, all of which glittered in the morning light as they slowly spun, nudged ever so slightly by the various air currents and the gentle rotation of the Earth itself.
Greg stared upwards at the display for a long moment as another strange feeling overtook him. Something about the building felt...off? Yet he'd worked here every day for the last twenty years and outside of just regular redecorating it was still the same building it had always been. Right? But his introspective moment was thrown off as a small elbow nudged him in the side.
"Well, thanks for the ride, Greg. See you at 430?" Willow's husky voice said, and Greg turned to stare as his son turned sister-in-law. She gave him a lipsticked smile and a small wave before she was off, her wide hips and ass bouncing in her just-small-enough clothes that caught the eye of almost every man and some of the woman in the lobby as she headed for the executive bank of elevators.
Greg watched her leave and couldn't help but feel a little...aroused? Despite the fact that Willow had been his son, the woman said boy had become was not lacking in attractiveness and clearly knew how to use it. But the patriarch of the Strasserman family quickly shook his head free of the corruptive thoughts. That had been his son! And not only that but he was married!
"Christ alive, I need to get to my desk and figure that stupid rock out!" He muttered to no one but himself.
"YO, GREG!" A familiar voice shouted across the atrium, and Greg looked over to see the youthful form of Jared Fredericks waving him over to one of the elevators. The slightly younger man was holding the doors open, much to the displeasure of the other office workers inside. Greg nodded and hustled over to the small, crowded lift and slid inside, offering a muttered 'thank you're to his compatriot.
"Almost thought you weren't coming in today, G-Man! Everything okay?" Jared asked as the doors to the elevator slid closed. The machine lurched into motion as it began ferrying the workforce to their assigned floors.
"Uh...Yeah. Yeah just some, uh, delays. You know my, uh, sister-in-law." Greg said with an apologetic shrug.
"Who DOESN'T know her? I'm sorry Greg, but I really wish you hadn't helped her get a job here!" The nasally voice of Janice Hoight said from behind him. Greg cast a look over his shoulder at his fellow office worker. He always though she resembled Julia Louis-Dreyfus in a way, though with a little more weight and a larger nose and hopeless hair. "You know we all love you in the Sec-Pool, but she's a gold digger if I've EVER seen one!"
"Oh, you're just jealous, Jan!" Jared chuckled, giving Greg and the other man, someone named...Kopowski? Greg personally didn't know him that well, some good natured elbowing.
"Laugh it up,Fredericks. We all know she was working you the moment she got here. How's it feel to be a stepping stone because she walked all over you on her way to the executive wing!" Janice almost snarled back. Greg could see the anger and hate in the older secretary's eyes as she glared daggers at Jared. And from behind her, several of the other secretaries in the cabin nodded their heads silently.
Whoever Bill was now, it was clear to Greg that SHE hadn't made many friends in the secretary pool.
"Well what can I say, when someone like THAT walks on you, you just enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts!" Jared said with a arrogant laugh before catching Greg staring at him, "Uh, sorry man. I mean you saw how it was. Hell you were checking out that ass this morning!"
"...Right" Greg said as a frown formed on his face. Office gossip and relationships were often brutal, but he'd managed to steer clear of being personally involved with the drama during his length of employment here due to being a devoted husband and father. It was strange to have to put up with it now, and not to mention it was about his siste-ugh, about Bill! He shifted a hand into his pocket and felt his fingers close around the gemstone that had taken his son from him, anger at how unprofessional everyone was a ting, wanting to fix Bill and just wanting some time alone at his desk!
As the elevator dinged and the doors opened...
