In a panic, Derek whipped out the shrink ray. The obvious solution right now was to simply grow him and Claire back to their normal sizes. Then he could get lectured by his dad, probably get grounded, and that would be the end of it. "Hang on babe," he told Claire, grabbing her hand amongst the panicked crowd of fleeing civilians. Whipping out the shrink ray, he aimed it at the two of them and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened.
"What the fuck is going on?!" screamed Claire, as people bumped into her.
Derek could not believe how unlucky he was. Of all times, the shrink ray now said "Re-charging: 7%." It would be a while before they were able to grow back to normal size. He turned to face Claire. He didn't know how to tell her this. Taking a deep breath, he prepared to break the news. "Baby, we're gonna be stuck..."
"Help!" Claire screamed. In the middle of Derek's sentence, Claire had been pulled from his hands. He watched as the enormous pair of metal tweezers grasped his girlfriend. Steve had plucked her up, having no knowledge of her true identity, or that she was not really one of the miniature people. Derek could only watch and scream in terror as his giant dad deposited the tiny blonde into the glass beaker.
Steve continued to pluck up the tiny people. He estimated he probably had about fifty in the beaker. He would come back later for the animals, but decided against having wild beasts this close in proximity to the tiny people. "ALRIGHT EVERYONE, SEE YOU LATER," the giant laughed, and stomped away from the city with his captives.
With his jaw agape, Derek started sprinting towards the cities limits as fast as his ant-sized legs could carry him. He had no idea how he was going to rescue his tiny girlfriend, or what his giant dad was going to do with her.
Inside the glass beaker, all the captives were screaming or crying. None of them knew who this giant was (except Claire) and even she didn't know what was going to happen.
Steve placed the beaker down on his desk near a magnifying glass and a microscope. "ALRIGHT, I DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF ANIMALS YOU ARE, BUT I KNOW YOU'RE NOT REAL HUMANS," he said, drawing gasps and screams from the crowd. "I HOPE YOU DON'T MIND, BUT I'LL BE RUNNING SOME EXPERIMENTS ON YOU."
