In the edges of New Innsmouth City is a mysterious cult shrouded in mystery. They were well known and had quite a reputation among the locals, but so far were uninteresting enough to avoid the coverage of any major media outlets so no one has yet looked into their practices or beliefs. Such information is known only to a chosen few.
New initiates are exposed only to what the leaders of the cult deems non-vital enough to share but still reveals enough about them to attract willing followers. Any followers that do manage to show true devotion to what they are exposed to are allowed into the deeper parts of the cult, where they will learn about their core beliefs and the practices that would surely attract the attention and ire of the outside world.
However, one outsider whose attention they did gain was one Audrey Tabbernack, a journalist from the New Innsmouth Times. Well, more like a self proclaimed journalist. She was still just an intern. In fact, she had been told by her employer to not look into the cult since it was distracting her from her more important work. But to her, this cult WAS her most important work. Years ago, a friend of hers had joined the cult. She told her about it the night before she would join and that was the last time she had seen her.
The police launched an investigation into the matter, but came out with nothing to show for it. They investigated the cult but could find no connections to her friend's disappearance. But Audrey knew that the cult was responsible for her friend's disappearance. And now she had gotten the chance to prove it.
Using a small gig the Times gave to her as an opportunity, she joined the cult in secret, joining its initiates. Since then, she had been going through the motions, practicing their rituals, memorizing the scriptures they gave her, pretty much acting as much like a truly devoted follower as she could without actually believing in their preachings. After a year of work, she finally did it. Today is the day that she would finally fully infiltrate the cult of ______.
