Chapter #4

Mo, The Worried Manager

    by: Keroro04 Author IconMail Icon
Mo Marigold had woken up in a cold sweat, the sun shining on her face as she shook in fear from her bed. This was a common occurrence for the woman, as looking after a small coffee shop had done some serious damage to her ego, making her somewhat of a nervous wreck.

This wasn’t just something that started when she had gained ownership of Bean Machine however. Mo had always been put through a lot of pressure ever since she was young, having been sent to a prestigious boarding school at the age of 13 and not coming back home until she graduated.

All this pressure kept adding up, and even outside of the duties of running a coffee stop, she was also a single mother of two. At 36 years old, she had two different kids of hers, of whom the father had left only her to take care of them. One of them, a rather diminutive girl at the age of 16 named Juliet, she had managed to get into Buttercombe based on grades and effort, which she hoped would help the girl become successful in life.

As for the other though…

“Mom, can you hurry up in there? I’ve gotta shower too ya know!”

At the moment Mo was just trying to calm her nerves with a long, cold shower, but upon hearing her other daughter’s yelling, Mo quickly finished up in there, marching out to see them. She was adorned in a long towel wrapped around her body, which brought to attention her small potbelly, as the fabric tightened around that part of her figure.

“I’m so sorry, my little Valentine… don’t worry, the showers all yours.”

“Thank goodness! Now maybe I can get some peace in this house…”

Valentine, named after the city itself, was Mo’s other daughter, and Juliet’s elder sister by two years. unlike her smarter sister, she got around from her charisma, and was enrolled in Valentine High as a Senior on the verge of graduation. She stood a bit taller than her mother, and was rather chubby as well, with a particular focus on her thighs and rear end.

With this figure though, rather than being embarrassed about it she had put it to good use, becoming a cheerleader and putting her ass on display at the local football games. Unlike Mo, she was a perfectly normal woman who adapted to her situation well, and was only afraid of being possibly held back for something.

But Mo… wasn’t exactly the brightest woman. All she saw was that her daughter was putting on weight, and she was curious as to why. As soon as Mo got ready to wave goodbye to her daughter as she left for work that Saturday morning, she asked the question.

“So uh… Valentine, I’m sure you’ve noticed that you’ve put on a little… extra size on your derrière? Is that what the kids are calling it?”

“Ugh no, it’s called putting on weight, Mom…” Valentine corrected, before crossing her arms. “And it’s not like you to pry into my private life either!”

“Hey, I’m just making sure that you don’t end up like me when you grow up!” Mo responded back, pulling out a photo of her own mother and holding it to her chest. “Do you remember Grandma Marilyn? The one who opened the Bean Machine before the Yengs bought it, made it a chain and made me manager of the original store?”

“Of course I do, Mom…”

“Then you know that weight isn’t exactly a healthy thing! Look, I just don’t want you to end up like her, barely mobile and having to worry about five children…”

“Hmph, why don’t you take care of your own first before you focus on mine?” Valentine retorted, poking on her mother’s pudge and causing the older ginger woman to blush. “Your not exactly lightweight either, now are you?”

She wasn’t kidding. Both Valentine and Mo herself were aware of her weight, and that the older woman was indeed putting on the pounds. Her belly felt like it was getting softer and softer by the day, and her hips were just as big as her daughter’s. Unlike Valentine though, Mo’s fat was more pillowy and soft rather than her daughter’s weight, and sagged out into smaller rolls rather than being one big fold of accumulated weight.

Realizing her daughter’s good point, Mo sighed and relented, as she opened the front door. “You… you make a good point. Maybe I should go out for a run today?”

“That’s more like it!”

___

Following saying goodbye to her daughter, Mo made her drive to work, passing by the Little Bake Shop on Main to grab a small box of donuts on the way. She had made friends with the owner, so she was able to learn which pastries were the best tasting. She was even offered by the woman to be a taste tester, but she declined as she had her own business to run.

Of course, Mo thought to herself as she slowly unlocked the front door to the Bean Machine, she was right in making that decision. She could have put on a ton of weight from being Ronnie’s taste tester, and if she got too big, she’d no longer be able to run her own store. At the very least though, she was still able to pick up some donuts from her and bring them to work.

Today she managed to bring in a whole baker’s dozen of glazed donuts, firmly held in a box. She had already managed to eat three while in the car, and was tempted to eat a fourth, but she had remembered her daughter’s words and relented, as she put the box on the counter for the other workers to split amongst themselves.

Slowly but surely, after Mo opened up the store, the help wanted sign still hanging on it’s hook right outside the store, the other people working today’s shift arrived one by one. First to arrive was Katrina Blackwell, a Texan woman who seemed very nice to her, with hips wide enough to fill up three separate chairs. She was in awe at how massive the woman was, but was even more impressed at how she was able to waddle throughout the place with little effort, as if her fat wasn’t hindering her that much.

Next up to arrive was Saffron Hughes. Similarly, she was also heavy down below like Katrina, but was somewhat smaller in weight, being about half her size when it came to their behinds. The two baristas often argued a lot when they shared a shift, but for today there was nothing Mo could do about it, since the ginger owner was having a sort of staffing problem, and needed more people to hire to meet up with demand.

Last but not least to arrive though was the arrival of Duke, and with him his sister Serene. The two worked in the back of the store, being the ones to grind up the various blends of coffee, as well as pulling out whatever else the customer requested on the board. Serene was a rather thin looking woman with a proud chest, and by contrast Duke was a rather large bear of a man, with a large gut constraining against his uniform. Maybe she should consider getting the man a even bigger shirt, Mo thought to herself as she welcomed them all in.

Predictably, as Mo flipped the sign open and started the shift at the coffee place, everyone working had already grabbed all 9 remaining donuts from the box, with Serene being the one to dump it in the trash. Looking at them, it was hard for Mo to worry about her own weight, but like a double edged sword, it also led her to worry about their job performance, and if they could keep up forever if they kept gaining like they were…

That was the least of Mo’s worries however, as the first customers of the day arrived. Looks like it was going to be a very loooooong day for her…
