Chapter #4

Women in the Workforce

by: Bobo the Hobo Author IconMail Icon
For better or worse, Carol found herself leaning towards the women in the office. Perhaps it was gender bias. She couldn't help it that she just so happened to get along better with people of a similar gender to her, could she? That wasn't favoritism, right?

Anyway, the longer she worked at Gilbert & Heil, the more some ladies in particular started to stand out to her...

***

Parker Black, a begrudging secretary if there ever were one, looked placidly at her computer screen. Her brown eyes were dull and lifeless as she watched the minutes tick away on the simulated analog clock. Carol had been watching her for some time now, quietly "re-evaluating" Ms. Black's position as her personal assitant. Honestly, she had a pretty poor attitude. How she had gotten hired, with her nose held high and her seeming lack of work ethic, Carol could have never guessed... well, so long as she didn't want to assume that the previous employers weren't so open about being dirty old men. Parker was a beautiful woman, even Carol saw it. Her olive skin and her beautiful black hair could turn heads from across the street, and her tight body with a still-firm set of breasts made it impossible for almost any straight folks around her to get any work done. Carol watched as Parker looked around, seemingly unaware of her presence, and whipped out her phone to check her Facebook feed.

Yes, something would have to be done about that...

Towards the left were Katie and Pam, two of Carol's "less-than-dilligent" workers. They were fine apart! Katie just handled a big contract, and Pam had impressed their last client so well that they were already joking about "stealing" her from Carol. They weren't bad workers, by far. It was just... well, it hadn't taken Carol long to find out that they were easily side-tracked.

Pam Weiss was a pudgy blonde woman in her mid thirties, standing by the copy machine. She had a very motherly figure—full round breasts and wide hips, with a little tummy that rounded out her front beneath the blue blouse she'd squeezed into that morning. Carol had been sort've "defaulting" to asking Pam about questions regarding how things were done around the office. She had been there the longest out of all her employees, and was apparently well-versed in how Misters Gilbert & Heil ran some parts of the budgeting that had thus far eluded Carol. She was a smart woman, but Carol knew the type. She was as chatty as they came, even with her! Carol hadn't been in the door five minutes before Pam had dropped the latest juicy gossip about just about everyone in the office.

Meanwhile, next to her was Katie Kline. She was a taller woman with brown hair, who even from Carol's totally non-judgemental and completely professional standpoint, looked sort of plain. She was a very slight woman, and dressed with all the fashion sense of a school marm. She had on a baggy purple sweater and khakis that were too big for her. Carol would have never guessed that she handled the clients like a cardshark, given how meek and mousy she assumed her to be. People assured her that she was just "slow to warm up". In time, Carol hoped to see what made this saleswoman tick.

For about the third time this morning, Carol caught Brooke Blake staring at the clock on the wall, typing idly on her keyboard in an attempt to pass the time. Brooke was—no disrespect meant, just Carol stating a simple fact—a big girl. Probably one of her largest employees in the office. There were plenty of reports (and gossip from Pam) about the old bosses getting onto her about snacking at her desk. Keeping food in there, attracting ants. But she was also second to only Pam in how long she'd been working at the company. She knew a lot about its internal workings, and she had a good repertoire with her repeat clients. It wasn't like Carol had a problem with her size or anything—weight was covered by anti-discrimination acts!—she would just really like to see Brooke focus on something other than when her next break was...

Oh and poor whats-her-name... Becky Berger, the first intern since the changeover. These women could be absolutely awful to her. She was trying, and Carol really liked her! She had spirit, moxie, or... whatever you wanted to call it. She had been a former barista before applying at Gilbert & Heil, but somehow Carol mused she spent more time at Bean Machine now than she did when she worked there! Everyone had her making coffee runs, handle difficult assignments for them, break bad news to Carol.. the poor thing just couldn't catch a break! Add into that how awkward her figure was, with a disproportionately wide set of hips and a bottom big enough to stop and stare at, and Carol could only imagine how rough of a time she was having fitting in.

"Here's your coffee!" chubby Becky said with a smile as she placed a Black and White on her boss' desk, "Just like you ordered it."

"Thank you Becky." Carol said with a smile as she took a sip, "Mm... good job, hun."

The chubby twenty-something bounced out of the room a bit happier, her big round ass bobbing behind her.

And at that, Carol was reminded of the caloric content of her new favorite drink. If she wasn't careful, she might have more trouble fitting into her new workspace much more literally than intended...

At any rate, Carol needed to go back to work.

There was plenty happening around the office...
