Chapter #4The Remote by: Unknown "Yes! It's finally done!" Dan exclaimed with a childlike grin on his face. The 25 year old had gotten practically no sleep the last few days. He had put everything that he had into completing his work of art. At long last, it was finally done. "And how beautiful it is!" Dan exclaimed, holding up the device that he had finished constructing as he examined it from every possible angle. It looked like a relatively small T.V. remote control with several buttons, each one a different color to signal a different function. "Now all I need is a test subject to ensure that the remote functions as it should" he said with a wicked grin as he looked at the picture in the corner of his desk of him and his girlfriend Phoebe. With the completion of his remote, all of his relationships seemed insignificant. She would do perfectly as a test subject. With his decision made, Daniel Von Strasser took out his cellphone and dialed her number.

Phoebe Jackson's sweet dream was suddenly interrupted by the sound of Beethoven's 5th playing right next to her head. With a tired hand she grabbed her phone and brought it to her head, which was still partially buried in her pillow. "Hi love" she said, followed by a yawn. Who other than Dan would possibly be calling her at this hour?
"Babe, you need to come over right now!" Dan said excitedly. "It's super important!"
"Danny, it's 3:00am. You'll have to be a bit more specific if you want me anywhere other than my bed" she said, sitting up and pushing some of her pink and purple dyed hair out of her eyes.
"I really can't explain. You just have to come over and see for yourself. I promise you, it's gonna change your life" Dan said immediately before hanging up. Phoebe sighed as she slid out of bed and made her way to her dresser. She slid out of her black night gown and then used her phone's flashlight to put on a pair of purple sweatpants and Dan's Dark Side of the Moon t-shirt that she had never returned. Considering the shirt was a few sizes too big and the sweatpants were incredibly baggy, it was by no means a flattering look for Phoebe. But it was good enough for this hour.
"I really hope this is worth it, Dan" Phoebe said as she locked her apartment door and went to the garage of her apartment building. As she walked, Phoebe thought of some of the memories she had with her boyfriend. She met Dan at a sci-fi convention and the two instantly hit it off. Dan was the son of a world renowned scientist who spent most of his later years in his private mansion in the middle of nowhere. Because of that, Dan had a bit of a chip on his shoulder that came out in his dark, and often kinky, sense of humor that Phoebe instantly fell for. She was almost positive that this late-night call would involve Dan showing her an experiment that he had just finished. The only reason that she was willing to drive to his house at this hour was because she knew that his experiments rarely disappointed. Phoebe was certain that this would go exactly like all of Dan's other experiments went. She'd enjoy the experiment and compliment her boyfriend on another job well-done, followed by the two having some very nice, very kinky, sex and concluding with Phoebe falling asleep in Dan's bed. Then she'd wake up and rush home to change into her work clothes, making it to Wilko right on time for her shift to start. At this point, it was practically a routine.
After a few minutes of driving, Phoebe pulled into Dan's driveway and made her way to the door. Despite the fact that the two rarely, if ever, speak to each other, Dan's dad had provided him with enough money to live comfortably without a job as well as a relatively nice house all to himself. Dan used it as a lab and Phoebe was certain that if the police ever got a warrant they would find many illegal gadgets. But the fact that Dan broke the rules was one of the reasons that Phoebe was so into him so none of that bothered her.
"Dan? I'm here!" Phoebe said loudly as she knocked on the door, only to then realize that there was a piece of paper taped to it. "'In the bedroom. Door's open.'" she read and then rolled her eyes before opening the door and stepping into the house, locking the door behind her. She then walked upstairs and headed towards Dan's bedroom with a sly grin on her face. I guess Danny wants to get right to the fun, she thought without having any complaints if this morning was more about the sex than the science. "Hey love. What'd you wanna show me?" Phoebe asked as she opened the door and walked into the bedroom. As soon as the door was fully open, Phoebe was greeted with the sight of Dan sitting in bed, completely nude, holding a strange...remote?...in his hand. Before she even got a chance to ask what the strange remote was, Dan pressed a button on the remote. Suddenly...
