Chapter #8

Go To The Cafeteria.

    by: MCL Author IconMail Icon
"The beach usually isn't that populated..." Hajime theorised, placing his soft hand on his chin, "If I'm looking for people, the cafeteria's probably a better option. Besides, everyone might go there to have a meeting about this whole thing."

Making his way towards the door, Hajime noted how sluggish Mikan's body felt as he prepared to leave, as if actively pulling against him. Looking down, his protruding chest filling his vision once again, he could immediately tell what exactly it was.

"Damn... Did Mikan not eat at all yesterday? I guess it was pretty early in the morning when we all got swapped - it's not like I went out of my way to eat anything afterwards. Some of Teruteru's cooking would be great right about now." Although, a small inkling in the back of Hajime's mind had him wondering if Teruteru would even be able to cook as usual given the changes. After all, he was in Akane's body, right? Knowing Teruteru, he'd be too busy feeling himself up to do any real work...

But that thought made Hajime realise something. How many people were enjoying their new bodies? As weird as this whole thing was, there were definitely some more... Favourable, so to say, outcomes. For example, getting Nekomaru's body would be an absolute godsend compared to, say, Hiyoko's.

"Or Mikan's..." Hajime found himself mumbling, more than a little bitter about his bad luck. "No, I can't think like that. That's unfair to everyone else - I'm sure we're all going through our own trials right now!" Reaffirming this to himself, Hajime finally took out through the door, making his way towards the cafeteria.

On the way, Hajime inwardly whined to himself every time he moved: his hair uncomfortably bobbed, and his lack of balance (as a result of his new chest) almost caused him to topple forwards several times. Even his stomach made him uncomfortable, as it made a light, feminine growl along the way, demanding some form of sustenance that Hajime didn't have.

"Seriously... Usually, when I'm hungry, I can tough through it. Mikan's body feels like she's gonna collapse." Hajime mumbled to himself again, beginning to notice it as an uncomfortably common habit of his as of late. It was almost like every time he opened his mouth, he couldn't believe the sound that came out - he had to hear it again, just to ensure that it truly wasn't his. Naturally, each time, Mikan's high, squealing voice came out, starting to annoy him to no end.

Despite that, he arrived at the cafeteria, making his way through the entrance. Looking down towards the stairs, he could swear he was hearing some loud commotion going on upstairs - nothing insane, but some loud yelling was definitely going on between people.

"..The HELL?!" He couldn't quite make out who was speaking, due to the distance.
"--The one who..!" The voices flickered in and out, other voices interrupting others. Combined with the distance from the entrance and the upstairs cafeteria, it was difficult to tell who was saying what.
"Why don't you just..!"

As Hajime heard this, he subconsciously took a step backwards, a little shaken. He definitely didn't expect this the moment he walked in - what the Hell should he do?

Well, obviously he knew the answer. He should go up there and try to help out, pacify anyone he can. Now was definitely not the time to be fighting, and plenty of people in the group wouldn't be used to their new strength or weakness. Worst case scenario, someone would get seriously hurt, if not killed!

"But..." Hajime bashfully murmured, looking down at his hand - it was shaking. Even though he knew what to do, he was so... Apprehensive. What if it was something really serious? What if he, himself, got hurt? In Mikan's body, what could he even do? He could barely walk here, with how many times he tripped over himself.

It was hard to admit it, but it was the truth.

Hajime was afraid. Deeply, deeply afraid.

Looking frantically between the stairs and exit, he heard the voices slowly increase in volume. He had to decide whether to help, or simply run away and pretend he didn't hear anything - and fast, before he was caught standing in, looking like even more of an idiot.
