Chapter #5In Which the Writer Starts Shitposting Again by: Frost (This is your On the Mark disclaimer right back atcha! It’d be lovely if you’ve completed The Journey as we’ll be alluding to major plot events all the way to the ending. How about that? Best catch a rerun if you haven't finished, ya hear me?)
“All the way from…”
Just before he finished his statement, Teddie paused as his eyes went wide. He began twitching in place, much to the concern of the rest of the Investigation Team. Playing through the shadow's head at a rapid-fire pace was a vision of the future, filled with multi-sized eating contests, mud wrestling, long ignored alternate universe protagonists, and the very destruction of time and the universe itself.
Needless to say, Teddie only had one takeaway from his prophetic vision.
“You mean she wasn’t even DLC!?” Teddie cried in disbelief. “And that edgy twerp Minazuki made the cut instead!?”
“Um, Teddie, are you okay?” Yu asked, looking over at the seething mascot.
“What did you say about Minazuki, Ted?” Yosuke asked.
Naoto leaned forward. “He isn’t on the loose again, is he?”
“No,” Teddie muttered. “Unless you meant footloose. Never mind that! We’ve got a game to play!”
“I’m confused…” Chie groaned, still trying to make sense of what Teddie was saying. “What’s going on?”
“You guys will be playing a series of fun, totally not questionable, games against… wait for it,” Teddie paused, his felt hand hovering over a pair of buttons. He decided against the one that lead to his vision. “For the second time you’ll definitely forget, you’ll be playing against the shadow hunters from Gekkoukan High!”
“Gekkoukan?” Yu repeated, noting the familiarity.
Before Yu could place where the name was familiar, Teddie pounded on the button. A whole in the ceiling opened, and a group of teenagers fell through the opening, landing on a bare mattress placed right under it.
“Did we step on a trap or something?” asked one of the voices, belonging to a silver haired boy.
“That’s the last time we let Stupei lead,” complained a girl in a pink shirt.
“Hey, I thought I saw a treasure chest!”
“Everyone, I can’t summon Lucia,” said a girl with teal hair. “I don’t know if we’re in trouble.”
“I detect another shadow,” said a robotic voice. “This one has a… strange energy.”
One by one, the group of teenagers (plus a boy and his dog) began to untangle themselves. The Investigation team let out a gasp as the noticed familiar sets of faces.
“Master?” Chie asked under her breath. She was swiftly met with Teddie’s hand over her mouth.
“Shh, no spoilers. They haven’t met you yet,” Teddie hummed. The bear mascot used his free hand to point to a blue haired boy and the one in the beanie. “Especially regarding those two. You wouldn’t want to break time, would you?”
Chie shook her head. Teddie released his hold.
“Wow, Mitsuru-san was really pretty in high school, too,” Rise commented, a hint of admiration in her voice.
The teenager in the red coat and a black beanie stepped forward. “You, bear. Where the hell are we?”
“Relax, Shinji,” Teddie said. “You’re just here to play a game.”
“How the hell do you know his name?” pressed the boy with gray hair.
“I know a lot of things I shouldn’t know, Akky.” Teddie’s face went blank. “A lot of things…”
“What is this place?” asked a young boy clutching a dog.
Teddie, finally seeing an opportunity to reel things back in order, jumped to the center of the stage. “You, my friend who will absolutely be seated in the bleachers for the ENTIRE duration of the show, are on the set of the Midnight Channel’s premiere new game show…”
Teddie snapped his felty fingers and struck a pose.
"Midnight Macro Miracle Mayhem!"
(Patent pending.)
“Where is that floating title coming from…?” Yu muttered aloud.
“That’s not important, whatsoever,” Teddie beamed. “All that matters right now is that we make teams to start off with.”
“Teams?” Yu asked.
Teddie nodded. “Yep, boys versus girls. The data from over a thousand chapters and counting CLEARLY shows a preference!”
“Chapters?”
“Also not important!” Teddie chimed. Teddie clapped his hands together, eliciting a squeaking noise. “Alright, the boys team will be Yu-Sensei, Kanji-kun, Minato, and Junpei!”
“We never agreed to this,” the blue haired boy muttered.
“And for the girls…” Teddie began, “Rise-chan, Naoto-kun, Yuka-tan, and Mitchan!”
The girls from Gekkoukan in question merely sent death glares at the mascot. Teddie ignored them, producing an envelope from his suit sleeve.
“For our first game…” Teddie began, pulling out the cue card. His expression wilted. “Huh, seems the writer couldn’t be arsed to make up new games. Oh, well! We'll make do with what we have.”
“Writer?”
“Also not important! Seeing a thread here, Sensei?” Teddie asked. “Anyways, the first event will be…” indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
