Chapter #3
Tree of Life
by: Unknown
You tried to remember what your mother taught you as you sneak through the dark forest. Stay low. Avoid the light. Don’t make a sound. You’ve seen what savage Pokemon do to those they catch, and you want no part in it. However, while you were terrified of being alone at first, you were quickly growing numb to it. You had been mentally preparing for this day for years: that day that you would finally have to brave the world all on your own. You came to believe that life was dictated by fate; whatever happens, happens. If you were fated to die out here, so be it.
Before you was the Tree of Life. Once a beacon of hope, it has since overgrown all civilization and driven most Pokemon back to their savage ways. Within its mangled roots laid the only surviving Pokemon who had formed a connection with the members of the Society -- she must know where they’re hiding. Your mother told you all about Xerneas, in her fairy tales. Once, she was the proud matron of the Tree of Life; but it has since grown too powerful for even her to control. Thus, she now lives a quiet life of meditation and contemplation, occasionally feasting on smaller Pokemon. You had to be smart about this. Before entering the Tree of Life, you transformed into a Lucario -- one of the legendary Explorers that is said to have saved the world just a while back. With that, you hesitantly enter Xerneas’ lair. “Who… dares…?” you hear her croaking voice call from deeper within the chamber, sending vibrations throughout the hallway.
“It’s just me, Xerneas! It’s Lucario,” you said, stepping out into the light. For the first time, you laid eyes on the Pokemon you had been so curious about all these years. She still resembled a deer, almost four times you size, towering over you in the small chamber. All the color had been drained from her. Her eyes were cold and seemed lifeless. She seemed like she had been wasting away for years and years now. “It’s... been a long time,” you continue, acting like you were greeting an old friend.
Xerneas stared at you, her expression unreadable. “Lu… cario…?” She whispers to himself, as if she was dreaming. You stand there silently, praying that she believes you...
