Twilight Sparkle's castle was quiet and tranquil. Spike sighed, sinking into the couch, his feet resting on a footstool and his large eyes buried in a book. A fire burned in the earth, the logs being consumed by bright green flames, curtsy of the little dragon's special ability.
There was not one upcoming event, not one threat invading Equestria, and, most importantly to the green dragon, not one pony to boss him around; Twilight had gone to the Crystal Empire to visit her brother, leaving Spike behind to tend to their home.
Yup, if there was one thing he enjoyed the most was being left home alone. Well, almost alone. Somewhere in the castle, Spike knew, Starlight Glimmer was busy working on some spells for her studies, but she, due to being a little awkward in conversation, rarely bothered him.
Speaking of awkwardness, Spike had noticed that the pony had been growing a little nervous and flustered lately. He didn't know why exactly, but he heard that it's about Trixie and a stallion. When Spike asked her for more information, Starlight only said, "It's not meant for little dragons' ears. I'll tell you when you're older."
Spike would usually bristle in anger at that statement. What did she mean that he wasn't old enough? Why, he helped plan celebration, wrote hundreds of letters for Princess Celestia, and accompanied Twilight and her friends on dangerous quests. He could handle Starlight's secret.
Curious, Spike wanted to dig a little further, but then it accord to him that perhaps this could be a personal matter, that he would be sticking his snout into something that he had no business in, so he decided to leave it. But it was on this afternoon that all that was going to change.
The main door of the castle swung open with a deafening boom that echoed throughout the castle, startling Spike.
"Starliiiiight!" a familiar voice screamed in rage.
Spike jumped off of the couch, running out of the library to see what the commotion was about. The green dragon caught sight of Trixie running up the staircase, her face twisted in rage, cape billowing in the wind as she ran.
Worried, Spike followed her, calling out to her, but she didn't stop. He followed her and saw Trixie storm into Starlight's room. Worried, the dragon ran over and peered inside. The two friends were in a heated argument, shouting at each other.
"How dare you!" Trixie exclaimed, pointing a hoof in accusation, "How dare you steal away Black Hearts!"
Starlight gritted her teeth and said, "I won, Trixie. He kissed me. He chose me. That's it!"
"Yeah, and you also got yourself into his bed!" Trixie said with a sly smile.
Starlight gaped in shock. "How did you...?" she began.
"O, you weren't suspecting that I would leave the two of you alone after I saw you, did I?" Trixie said with a smirk, "I spied on you and I saw everything he did, and he bred you good."
It was now Starlight's turn to point a hoof at Trixie's face. "Say what you want," she said, "You're just jealous that he fell for me instead of you. But I highly doubt that any stallion would fall for you with your kind of attitude."
Spike couldn't believe his eyes. Starlight and Trixie, two good friends that went together like peanut butter and jelly, were fighting at each other.
"O really," said Trixie, a sly smile returning to her face, "Well, I bet that I can seduce every stallion in Ponyville."
"O, you want to make bets I see," said Starlight, "Well then, I could do the same."
She held out her hoof. Trixie stared at it for a few moments, took it, and said, "Very well then. Whoever takes the most stallions wins."
And with that said, Trixie stormed off, Spike jumping out of the way, hoping that no pony saw him, leaving Starlight glaring at her as she left.
Spike stood there in the hallway, trying to process what just happened. From what it looks, Starlight had managed to steal away a stallion that she and Trixie was competing against, and Trixie was anything but happy about it, being a complete sore loser.
Now the had shook on a deal to seduce the biggest stallion? Spike may be young, but he knew enough about the Birds and the Bees. They were going to have sex and lots of it. But they would calm down, won't they?
They would come back together, apologize to each other, and have a good laugh about how silly they were. Yes, that sounded what most likely would happen, but then a thought suddenly reminded Spike of something.
Even though they had mended their old ways, joining the side of the good guys, they were still cunning tricksters, and when it came to bets they never backed down. Spike had a feeling that something very bad was going to happen.
