Chapter #4

Technicalities

"Unless you two have an air tight alibi, I will be denying you your ability to work magic until you reach thirteen!" Angrily, mom said. "You have one chance so I would make it count!"

Both Ina and Tia gulped, literally shaking with fear. "All we told him was that we could change him into a girl anytime we wanted, if he wanted us to." Tearfully, Ina protested.

"We were careful; no one around heard us and dad did not scold us when he came for Joe." Sobbing, Tia added. "We didn't do anything wrong..."

"Discussing magic in public places is frowned upon." Scolding, mom said. "Still, what you said to Joe was not a threat but it could have been perceived as one." She turned to the window, thinking before turning to you. "Joe must have taken the girls' words as a threat and hit the panic button, summoning your father."

"Dad gave Joe a panic button?" Surprised, you asked.

Mom nodded. "I can only guess that dad answered the call and, although he found it not to be serious, took advantage of the situation to talk to Joe about his chaotic science." Serious, she said. "Shifting the blame onto me was only a tactic to buy some time."

"I thought it was against a mad scientist's gentlemen code to lie." Frowning, you said.

"Technically, he did not lie." Frowning herself, mom replied. "There is a safeguard to prevent young witches from discussing magic in public places which I did not use as it is seen as somewhat extreme parenting." She then smiled. "Then again, technically, dad had no grounds to pull Joe from ballet as there was no real danger."

"I feel another argument coming." Wincing, you said.

Mom sighed. "I prefer to call them heated discussions."

You rolled your eyes at that. "Just don't make this feel like a tug of war over Joe." Serious, you warned. "You know he'd rather be an athlete; he may reject both powers if pushed."

Later on...

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Dad returns with Joe.

2. Joe returns alone.

*Noteb*
3. Mom calls dad, they had not returned yet.

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
