The dungeons is your go to, but you had to dig a little deeper. You knew one of the guards who reported the kidnapping and sat down with him. An older fellow who was not of a high title, but a well known and reliable soldier amidst the ranks. When asked, he gives a slightly rendition to the report you were given.
"Well sir, two monsters were scouting ahead and smothering the guards, I managed to see the one taking the princess! This slimey...pinkish fellow! The young lady seemed out of it, it looked as if she was going willingly with him. Dark magics they have, to pervert a girls mind, surely. I did my duty and confronted him! My strikes kind of...wobbled off of him and before I knew it a rotten slimey foot was upon me! It stank like you'd expect...with the additional scent of strawberries..." Strawberries? That clinched it! "Thank you my friend. Your testimony may have saved the girl from a horrible fate." You get up and gather your armour, demanding a servant pack me food, a tent and supplies! You know the monsters that took them. They had to be the sugary savages from no other mountain...but Candy Mountain! It was said one of the Monster King's most powerful minions had corrupted the mountain with his deceitful magic, creating an entire new kind of monster boy. The old man must've fallen victim to a jelly boy.
In a couple of hours you are mounted and on your way towards the mountain. Luckily it's summer so camping should be fine. You spend a few hours riding through unkempt roads and fields. Soon the road winds into a forest, but before the forest begins there is a cosy little cabin, the windows are lit and the chimney is burning. You should camp for the night, and it's probably warmer and safer in there...but it could be monster territory.
