Chapter #5Saved by a shrine maiden, and teaming up? by: DB7557   "Got you, wicked beasts!" A voice suddenly sounds from nearby bushes as you started considering the offer, knowing you could not stand a chance in combat
A girl dressed in strangely exotic red and white, kinda baggy clothes, and holding some foreign looking kind of polearm suddenly bursts out from the bushes! The monster girls are too surprised to react before she throws three strangely shiny pieces of paper towards them... the tiger and the kobold both get hit, while the catgirl manages to evade it by pure luck!
"W-what the heck, nya?!" She exclaims, suddenly looking fearfully towards her companions... who started to shine almost blinding light while seeming to be in some kind of stasis, before actually blinding you for a moment... and turning into a little tiger kitten and a little kobold puppy respectively, without any human features whatsoever.
"Take those other two fiends, and leave this sacred place alone before I cut you down with my naginata!" The girl said, she seemed about your age, with long brown colored hair, and due to nature of situation you just avoided, you also noticed she had sandals and white socks on her feet.
"O-okay, nya! We will get revenge for this though!" The catgirl said, quickly grabbing the adorable new animal forms of the other two before running away, and disappearing into the bushes, she even forgot the shoe she took off before starting to tease you.
"Thanks a lot for the help." You say, approaching the mysterious girl
"Hmph, it was nothing. I couldn't let that scum loot the shrine... or rather what's left of it. You made a nice distraction for them though." The girl said, a bit coldly for someone who just saved you...
"Y-yeah... do you know what happened here? I wanted to get a blessing before going on a quest to stop the Monster Girl Empire, but I found it like this." You decided to ask
"Well, I don't know... I just arrived here few hours ago, travelling between shrines around this country as part of my shrine maiden training. It was like this when I arrived, but then I went to look around for some clues, and those three suddenly appeared." The girl explained
"Shrine maiden?" You ask, unfamiliar with that title, the girl was probably a foreigner
"I'm a foreigner in case my clothes didn't clue you off yet. I guess... you could say I am like your priestesses, just with additional combat training regarding combat against demons and monsters." The girl explained, seeming a bit irritated having to explain that, she probably was getting asked about it a lot.
"Oh... that explains how you were able to easily get rid of those three like that." You say
"Well of course. I've defeated much stronger monsters and monster girls than some three random deserters." The girl says rather pridefully, she certainly seemed to like being complimented at least...
"Are those two you hit with those papers going to stay animals forever?" You decided to ask one more question
"No, doing that would require a more complex sealing ritual... they should stay that way for at least few hours though. And if they are dumb enough to return, I might introduce them to my naginata." The shrine maiden girl said showing off her halberd-like weapon
"What's your name by the way, if you don't mind me asking? Mine's David." You decided that you should introduce yourself to your savior at last, even if she didn't seem too interested in talking to you much
"Taina, though I don't know why would you need it. I doubt we are going to meet again." She said, once again sounding annoyed by your questions
"Actually... I was hoping that you wouldn't mind if I joined up with you for a while? The roads are dangerous recently, and I would like to find out what happened to the priestess from here." You decide to ask, that girl clearly has more combat experience than you, and if she is going around between shrines then she could help you get to the next one and get the blessings you wanted!
"And why would I need you for? You couldn't do anything against those three, and if not for me you would probably be under their feet." Taina pointed out... and you have to admit she had a point, but maybe if you offered her something else she could still be convinced?   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
