The Lau Family bickered in Cantonese, while looking over their latest supplies from their Yeng dealer. The family matriarch, Mei Lam still did most of the cooking here, but they still needed to buy sauce packets, fold up takeaway cartons, chopsticks and a myriad of other things. And that meant ordering from the Yeng corporation. And since Mei Lam barely spoke any English, that meant her daughter, Julie had to negotiate with a multinational corporation since she was 14 years old. Back then Julia was already almost as tall as her mother, but now several years later she was a head taller than the woman.
Still, it wasn't like it was hard to find good deals when dealing with Yeng. She used to search around for the best deals elsewhere but found there was no point. They were such good business partners, that's how they ended up in Abercrombie. A year ago, their old restaurant was destroyed in a flood. They didn't even know they were on a flood plain. The Yeng corporation had called, asking about why they hadn't made their usual monthly order. When Julie explained they were ruined, and probably would never order from them again, Yeng threw them a lifeline: they'd provide an interest free loan if they'd move their business to a more secure location. It was hard to imagine getting flooded this far in the mountains away from rivers.
So Julie was naturally very eager to stay on their good side when they started very aggressively pushing a new product they only called "Goop". Julie felt a sense of obligation. And the customer service representative she was talking to sounded so desperate.
So now they had a box full of tupperware containers of bright green glop unpackaged in their kitchen, completely unsure what that even was. Mei looked at the substance with a sharp eye, wrinkles streaking her black bang framed face as she carefully looked over the stuff like a hawk while Julie tied her longer red tipped hair into a pony tail casually before opening up one of the tupperware containers and giving it a sniff. It smelled like tangy, spicy lime jello. But not unpleasant. Her investigation was interrupted as her mother reached in and dipped a finger into the container and pulled out a big glop and put it in her mouth.
<Ma!>-- Julie objected, hazel eyes going wide. She was still uncertain if this mysterious substance was food or a new cleaning device.
But while her mother sucked on her finger, her expression changed from curious and perplexed to delighted, looking younger as the stress melted from her face and her own dark brown peepers lit up.
<Oh, This Stuff is tasty!> She cried out. <I can see why they wanted us to buy some so bad. We'll make a mint with this stuff. I'll have to work it into some new recipes.>
She reached out and took another finger-full and swallowed it. <And you should start offering it as a bonus sauce with the meal.>
