Kate stuck her tongue out as she was working on her latest invention; only a few little screws needed to put in and then it was finished. Kate grabbed the screw driver and carefully tightened the screws to make sure it wouldn't fail like last time.
When she was done Kate quickly took a sip of one of her energy drinks and sat against her desk admiring her latest invention. They were body swapping helmets. Kate had been trying to figure something out like this for a few months now and after hours of working it was finally finished. She admired the helmets connected by two threads; a simply but effective way. As the human brain exists of electric impulses she needed a way to make them leave the bodies. These threads were the answer to it; Kate had been searching forever on the internet for the right materials for it and finally she got them yesterday. Now the helmet was finished.
Kate put the can down and looked upstairs. She needed two people to try the machine on. Kate could always be one of those two people; she had no problem testing her experiments herself but for this one she needed someone else as well. She recalled Chris being at work, Mike at one of his friends and Jake was watching his favorite show and would break in an outrage if removed from it. That left only Mary.
Kate and Mary couldn't be any more different than cats and dogs. The fact they were both nerds was the only thing they had in common. Whereas Kate was optimistic and happy, Mary was mostly the same; gloomy and depressed. Kate shook her head as she left the basement where her lab was. At least gloomy and depressed was how Mary's teacher was describing her. Kate didn't agree with that point of view; you couldn't describe Mary as cheerful but she wasn't a girl who would change moods quickly. She always stayed the same. For some it was a blessing others a curse, Kate thought. It didn't matter though; she loved Mary the way she was.
Kate was standing in front of Mary's room. It was all quiet in there; she hoped it was because Mary was listening with her headphones and not that she was away. Kate knocked on the door and then opened it. Inside the room she Kate saw Mary sitting in front of her computer with her headphones on looking at the screen with an intense gaze. She also noticed Mary had her hand near her crotch; a scratch or something else?
Kate grinned as she quietly walked forward and lightly tapped Mary on her shoulder. The girl jumped in the air as she turned around and saw it was her mother.
"Mom." She whined. "Don't do that."
"Sorry, I'll remember next time." Kate said as always.
"What's up anyway? Is there something you wanted to ask me?" Mary asked straight to business.
"Yes, dear." Kate then explained how she invented the helmets and was looking for two volunteers. Mary immediately caught on that her mother wanted to ask her. Mary didn't mind trying it out. Switching bodies was something happened in most anime and she wouldn't mind trying it out. She did however wanted that the other person she swapped with was....
