The inside of the bakery was warm and homely. There were a few small tables with stools set up by the windows overlooking the street. The far wall was old brick, the other walls were painted white. The boys' father, Gary, stood behind a counter lining the left wall which displayed various cakes and other sweets on one end and breads and muffins on the other. Gary was a large man, leaving no question as to where his kids got their traits. He had short, clean cut bright red hair, freckles and green eyes, just like the kids. He had a bearish figure, with beefy arms and a hefty gut covered by his classic white apron. Some well kept scruff adorned his chin and face.
"Hey boys!" Gary waved from behind the counter to his sons as they entered. "Head upstairs and do your homework, then I'll see what there is for you to do down here."
"Sure thing, Dad." Jacob started up the stairs. Jesse stayed and went over to the counter.
"No homework tonight, I finished it on the bus." He said, tossing his backpack around a corner into a small back storage room.
"Great!" Gary said. "I've got just the job for you. Can you knead some dough in the back?"
"Sure thing." Jesse said, heading to the back room where he threw his backpack. He was a bit disappointed. He was hoping he would get Jacob's job with the frosting so he could indulge in those extra calories. The best part of the job in Jesse's mind was the luxury of decadent gluttony, but since he got the job a few weeks prior he had begun to learn that there was plenty of actual work to be done. "But then why does Jacob get to be so huge?" Jesse thought enviously.
Jesse truly envied the weight his older brother had put on. He admired the way it looked on his body, the way his clothes clung tighter and tighter to his torso and the way his belly jiggled. Jacob always was so aloof about his weight gain. "Yeah, guess I've been pigging out," He said once to Jesse when they were spending a day at the beach. Jacob's belly glistened as water ran down his stretch marks. "I've just been living the good life! Nothing wrong with that, right?" Jesse wasn't sure why, but when he looked at his brother's fat he was filled with a desire to touch it, to have it and to BE it.
"Dangit, this sucks. I'm gonna starve like this..." Jesse mentally whined as he kneaded the dough.
