"Luke, can you help Phoebe finish up her section so we can all go home please?" Liz said to Luke when she saw him stood idle. Luke, reluctantly, did as he was told and went to assist Phoebe stocking the shelves with the last of her stock. Glancing at her watch, Liz then sighed and walked to the help desk to check a few things on the computer before she left.
It had been a hectic shift due to the large size of the delivery but it was nearly over, and Liz was thankful. As she was closing the computer down, there was a faint noise behind her, followed by a huge plume of white smoke that appeared. When the smoke had cleared, an elderly man with a long white beard and wearing a grey robe was stood there, wafting the remnants of the smoke away. "Oof, sorry about that my dear, I must try and make a more enviromental entrance in future."
Liz just stood there... open mouthed, not believing what she had just seen. And all she could say was... "Er... I'm sorry sir, but the store is closed."
The old man laughed heartily. "I'm well aware of that my girl, I won't be staying long. I just felt it necessary to pay this quaint little store a visit, that's all." he said in what was quite a soothing voice.
Liz scratched her head, trying to figure out how the man had just 'appeared' like that. "And... why are you here exactly? And how did you get in? The door is locked." Liz asked a couple of questions.
"Oh I don't use doors, so outdated." The old man replied. "And as to your first question, I've noticed how everyone who works in this place is... well... how do you say... tired of the daily routine?" he said.
Liz shrugged her shoulders. "Can't help that. There's a job that needs doing, we all signed up for it. Now if you don't mind..."
"Ah but I can make things a lot more exciting for everyone here, and I intend to. But where are my manners, I am Eorlund The Magnificent, but there's no need to be so formal, just Eorlund will do." The elderly man chuckled, bowing to Liz.
"Right. Nice to meet you. But you really need to leave or I'll get in trouble." Liz responded, feigning a smile as she gestured to the exit.
Eorlund didn't seem concerned. "Oh have no fear, I will not appear on any of your security cameras."
By this time, several more of the employees had started to gather, namely Jessica, Natalie, Michael, Jodie and Aaron. They were all puzzled as to who this crazy old coot was and how he got into the store. When Eorlund saw that Liz was getting impatient, he smirked. "I think I know the perfect way to spice things up around here, so here goes..." he said, as he began waving his hand. Liz and the others gasped when they saw a swirling mass of magical energy appear. Then suddenly... all the employees in the store experienced the same wave of dizziness... before passing out.
Eorlund looked around at the unconscious staff members, chuckled, then clicked his fingers and disappeared in a puff of smoke. "Marvelous!" he chuckled, as he vanished into thin air.
The swirling energy Eorlund had conjured had randomly swapped everyone's heads around.
