Miriel entered Anna’s store, hoping the saleswoman had acquired some new books or tomes she could possibly use. As she walked in, Anna was counting the gold she had made from a previous sale, but looked up and smiled at Miriel as she walked up to her.
“Ah, Miriel,” said Anna. “I was just about to go looking for you.”
“Oh? Did you have something you wanted to sell to me?”
“Not quite,” said Anna. “See, one of my suppliers recently delivered a bunch of strange potions and tomes from one of the Outrealms, and I have no idea what any of them do.”
“Do you wish for my assistance in ascertaining the effects of these potions and tomes?” Miriel asked.
“Yes,” said Anna. “If I know what these things do, I can figure out how much they’re worth and start selling them.”
“If I assist you, will I be allowed to keep samples of these tomes and potions for further research?”
“Sure, so long as the samples aren’t too big,” said Anna. “I’ll even give you a cut of the profits. Say, twenty percent?”
“Very well,” said Miriel. “I accept your terms.”
“Excellent!” said Anna, holding her hand out. Miriel shook Anna’s hand, and Anna led Miriel around to the back, where the potions and tomes were being kept.
“Okay, here’s my stock of those tomes and potions I mentioned,” said Anna. “How do you want to start?”
“I believe it would be best to start by testing the effects of one of these items,” said Miriel.
Anna paused. “Are you sure that’s a good idea?”
“You wish to understand the effects of these items, correct?” Miriel asked. When Anna nodded, Miriel continued. “Then the fastest way to determine that would be through testing these items on myself, assuming they actually work.”
“Okay, fair point,” said Anna. “Where do you want to start?”
