After what felt like an eternity, Vera's ship finally pinged to alert her, waking her from her half-asleep state behind the controls of her personal ship. Brushing some of her short, black hair out of her face, she grinned, looking at what her probes had returned with.
"Let's see where you ran off to..."
See, Vera was a bounty hunter. In an age where people could fly their own ships out to any given dark corner of the universe, sometimes the long arm of the law was a little slow to catch them. Sometimes, people wanted people caught for things that weren't strictly lawful. That's where people like Vera came in. And Vera was something special. Not as experienced as some of her contemporaries, and not nearly as ruthless, her reputation for bringing quarries back alive nets her a regular income. And, as Vera entered a solar system, one of the planets below currently had one such target on it.
Vera reviewed her information as she suited up, pulling her field suit up over a pair of wide thighs. The target- one Angela Cadenza- was a human, red headed and a bit older than she was. She was a B-lister in the galactic political and diplomatic scene, but apparently she'd managed to piss off some alien bigwig, and now she was on the run from people like Vera. Well, Vera thought, patting the stun pistol secured to her hip, not for long.
Vera had sent a few drones out, looking for fuel emissions, photon trails, things like that, so that she could track Angela down to one of the nearby planets. Well, they'd all come back- 3 of them turning up with nothing, but one of them bearing a set of coordinates for a likely landing zone. Sure, it was largely unexplored territory, but it wasn't like Vera hadn't been on plenty of dangerous missions before. It was nothing new for her to touch down on...
