The reason Maya liked wearing both diapers and pull ups was because of where she lived. Maya lives in a bad part of town and her mom always has to work late and even though her grandma watches her Maya still didn't feel completely safe. After having a conversation with both her mom and grandma they decided a way to get Maya to feel safe would be too return her to diapers. It worked, so every night before bed Tammy Hart would diaper Maya and Maya would return to the safety of her youth.
Unfortunately for Maya a side effect of this was she became so use to the diapers at night she began to lose her potty training. This forced Maya to have to wear pull ups during the day since Maya feared the exposure of wearing diapers to school would cost her reputation as the tough one of the group.
