Although Auggie had developed normally in all other ways, he was a late bloomer when it came to using the potty. Although his development was normal, he didn't show any interest in using the potty well beyond the typical potty training stages. At the age of 4, Topanga decided that it was time to begin regardless of what Auggie was interested in or not.
Initially, it appeared that things would go smoothly. However, before too long both Cory and Topanga realized that he was going to be a challenge. Over the next few months, it seemed that they would take two steps forward with his potty training and then three steps backwards.
After trying for 9 months, little progress had been made and Auggie continued to have regular accidents in his pants, only making it to the toilet if he were forced to sit there for an extended period.
