Mia's Size Incident

-A story route requested by another user-

For a day at her office with absolutely no contact from any potential clients or any other people at all, Mia felt surprisingly busy.
Phoenix was late, but that wasn't entirely surprising. It seemed like almost once a week her protégé ran into some extenuating reason or another to have to come into the office late. Phoenix was a loyal and trustworthy enough person, of course, so Mia hadn't ever tried to pressure him on the matter so far. It wasn't as if she could rightly claim she hadn't been late often back when she had worked for the Grossberg Law Offices.
Nevertheless, she had a considerable stack of paperwork she had been putting off that had accumulated from her last three cases, and a delivery of some kind had appeared at the office door just a few minutes ago. Her most recent client had been a researcher with less than stunning people skills, and Mia remembered him saying something about asking her to watch over some object or another from his lab for a short while. She supposed that was the package now sitting on her desk.
Initially, she had thought to wait until Phoenix arrived to open it, but by now she had decided to just get it over with. If she already knew what she was looking at by the time Phoenix made it in, she could at least give him the rundown quickly and get him onto work for the day.

The package was mostly filled with a large amount of packing material to keep whatever its main contents were safe. Digging through, Mia lifted out a small device shaped a bit like a jagged stone. It had a pad of various buttons on one side, and a small rod sticking off of the other end. A transmitter? An antenna? She didn't really know. What in the world her client could possibly have needed her to hold onto the device for was beyond her.
She made to set it down on the desk again, but fumbled her grip slightly, almost dropping it. Correcting her grip just in time, she felt one of her fingertips pressing down against a couple of the buttons on the device. They didn't seem to do anything, so she set it down and went to drop the emptied package onto the couch.
A soft humming noise caught her attention.
"Hm?"
Once her hands were free again, she looked back at her desk. The device was definitely making a sound now. An eyebrow raised, Mia circled her desk and sat down, picking the device up again. There was no obvious function to it, but it was emitting the same soft hum as it sat in her hand. She flipped it over, just beginning to wonder if she could switch it off again when it made a much sharper noise, and she felt a strange sensation just below her chest, like something had been pushed against her. She hastily set the device down, looking herself over.
