This choice: Mavis comes with some good news as cleanup starts! • Go Back...Chapter #7Mavis comes with some good news as cleanup starts! by: Unknown Without the crazed hubbub of the partygoing guests that'd been flooding us, a silent whine seemed to hang over the club once the entire club was cleared out, save for a few littered cups left on the dancefloor, along with Kalinka and I scrubbing up the leftover trash.
"Well, what did you think?" Kalinka asked.
"I thought it was great! You were amazing up there!"
"Spasibo! Thank you!" She enthused. "...and what had Miss Mavis thought?"
"She thought it was one of our best shows ever!" Mavis squawked ecstatically, shuffling up to fast that she could've easily tripped on and rolled over her own gut. Kalinka and I were far apart enough that Mavis could grab us off the ground by either arm as she slid between us along the ice, victoriously skating around as she hugged us tight against her heaving chest. "We'd made more sales from that show then we'd had the entire year!"
"The entire year?" Wow. Accomplished by a human in Gaia? Call the papers! "That's amazing!"
"...and I owe it all to you, Kalinka!" I swear, Mavis sounded like she was on the verge of kissing her, she was so overjoyed. "I'd done a great good in choosing you!"
"Oh, just another walk in the park for me!" Kalinka shrugged off, jumping between both a swedish and russian accent. "But Gregory here was still an irreplaceable gift!"
Mavis settled down a bit, taking a few calm breaths, and smiled at me approvingly. "You, too, Gregory. Couldn't have seen tonight through without either of you!"
"Eh, just doing my job. Or jobs."
Mavis gave an amused snicker. "Sorry about that. C'mon, I'll take you back up and take care of the rest myself."

Kalinka and I each took a pod on Mavis' back on our trip back to the surface. By the time we'd made it back to the poolside and she'd let us disembark, the screens on the Glass Tornado's dome were emulating a serene night sky, with a full moon shining its reflection on the quasi-ocean.
"Night, guys! Great work today!" Mavis beckoned before diving back down.
"See you round, Mavis!"
"Bye, miss Mavis! I look forward to our further acquaintanceship!"
And with that, Mavis disappeared into the pool, leaving me and Kalinka alone.
"Well, good night, Kalinka! it's been really nice meeting you." I held out a hand for her to shake. She looked down at it and up to me, but rather than take it back, she stepped up to me and grabbed me in a friendly, yet surprisingly tight hug for somebody as short as her.
"Good night, mister Gregory! It's been wonderful meeting you!" She beamed as she broke away, giggling at a blush I could feel warming onto my cheeks. "You are a very cool guy."
"Thanks...you're pretty cool yourself."
As more eloquently as it could've been, Kalinka nonetheless smiled and skipped off, waving goodbye at me. "Bye, bye!"
"Goodbye!" I waved back, watching her till she rounded a corner and out of sight behind some trees.
I could better hear some mellow hula music playing somewhere in the distance now that I was alone, and I took a breath to finally settle down for the day, gazing up at the fake sky. It'd been pretty...interesting, to say the least, but at least there'd been plenty of color and excitement to relish in that I'd never seen for a while. On top of that, I'd made a new friend. A friend I could look in the eye!
I smiled at the day's former energy, standing still in the plaza before I started for the route back to the employee suites.
