The dark-haired, petite 17-year old girl was in a peculiar mood as she entered work at Wilko one Wednesday evening at the Rotherham store. She had been working there along with Jessica and Melissa ever since they were transferred from their own store at Parkgate. 'Peculiar' though didn't mean she was in a foul mood, or an irritated mood either. Kiran was feeling somewhat giddy, and couldn't stop twiddling the pendant she had hung around her neck.
It was a beautiful looking stone that was engraved in the gold chain, with the appearance of an amethyst. But this 'stone' had a power like no other, the ability to exchange body parts between people without them being aware. She'd already tried it on a couple of oblivious bus passengers on the way to work.
"Evening luv." Liz greeted the teenager with her usual smile.
"Oh, hi Liz." Kiran responded pensively as she snapped herself out of her trance and looked up at her supervisor. "How are you?" she inquired, returning Liz's politeness as she always tended to do. In the background, restling with some empty cages was Aaron, making it difficult for them to have a conversation.
Liz winced as Aaron clattered about in the background, then gestured to Kiran to follow her onto the shop floor where it was quieter. What she had to say though wasn't really that important. "You'll be working with Luke tonight okay luv, on the Seasonal department. But don't try lifting any bags of compost of anything, leave that to Luke." Liz said with a chuckle.
Kiran had to admit, she was disappointed not to be working on toiletries like she usually did. But Liz did like moving the staff around. She put on a brave face, then smiled at Liz. "Okay, no worries. I'm sure I'll enjoy myself on there." she smirked, having another rub of the magic stone around her neck.
"Oh, that's a beautiful necklace, be sure you don't lose it okay." Liz complimented Kiran.
Kiran shook her head. "Oh I won't, it's securely fastened." she said, tugging at her chain. What she didn't tell Liz was that it wasn't just the clasp that was keeping the pendant in place, it was a field of invisible magical energy bound to her. "And thank you, it was a present from my boyfriend." Kiran lied to Liz. She had actually broken up with her boyfriend a couple of weeks ago.
"Well, it's gorgeous, you're very lucky." Liz smiled again.
"Believe me, I know." Kiran replied with a giggle, hunching her shoulders slightly. "See you in a bit Liz." she then said, before disappearing upstairs and into the tea room, where the rest of the staff were assembled before starting work.
