Chapter #4Love In The Park by: Rita   "The Park?" Pete looked over the familiar wooded area in confusion, "Why here?"
"God, do I have to explain everything?" Emily groaned at her little brother, "The park is one of the only places in town where everyone goes. Alright, maybe not everyone but a lot of people. And a lot of people means diversity, Pete. The person who falls in love with you here is more random than if I picked, say, the high school. Make sense?"
"I guess so," Pete scratched his head, trying to understand his sister's logic, "But why would you want it to be random in the first place? Isn't magic chaotic enough?"
"Because it's more fun this way," Emily said, like she was stating the obvious, "Enough questions, we are going to go walking until we spot someone and you are going to make eye contact with them. Let's go," And so they went, Emily making her little brother walk with her through the park. It took less than a minute until they bumped into someone. To the siblings surprise, it was actually someone they both knew quite well. They bumped into...

Debra Barone: A 30 year old secretary who works with Jane(Pete and Emily's mother). Pete and Emily had met Debra many times, usually when their mother invited them to work occasions. Pete liked her because she was the only person who worked with his mother who didn't treat him like a child. She always treated Pete and his sister like they were equals and a mutual respect was almost immediately established when they met. Debra and Jane also got along very well, so much in fact, that Jane would say Debra is one of her closest friends. Despite their age difference, they had no trouble talking with each other or spending time with each other after work. Although, despite their friendship, Pete would sometimes hear his mother clearly referring to Debra as "Skinny brat," showing a unsubtle amount of jealous she had for the younger secretary. Debra likes Disney movies, cheesecake, and yoga.
Karen Smith: A 21 year old popular girl from Emily's high school days. Pete only knew Karen from pictures and through the many times his sister complained about her, the two of them clearly not getting along. While Emily was more of a drama kid and fell under the "Alternative" crowd, Karen was a typical popular girl. Cheerleader, ditsy, lots of jock boyfriends, etc. Although Emily had no problems with other girls like Karen, for unknown reasons, Karen had taken upon herself to humiliate and make fun of Emily as much as she could. Emily claimed she ignored it, but Pete could tell that what Karen did to his sister cut deep and would stick with her for a very long time. Karen likes shopping, musclebound men, and terrible sitcoms.  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
