Chapter #3Nostram Finire by: Rita "Reflection spell?" Pete replied, baffled at his sister's creativity with this prank, "What are you gonna do, turn me into a mirror?"
"Believe it or not, that would probably be a harder spell to cast," Emily sighed, as she clapped her book closed, "The spell I'm going to practice will turn you into a copy of me. Not only would you look exactly me superficially, but internally you would be all girl. The spell should even give you my current clothes I have on. Pretty crazy, huh?"
"Crazy is the exact word I would use," Pete stared blankly at his sister, "Why in the hell would you want your little brother to be a copy of you? Wouldn't that be, I dunno, weird?"
"Pete, you really need to listen to people when they talk you," Emily said over her shoulder, as she searched through her backpack, "If you were listening, you would know that I don't want to turn you into anything. I want to practice my spells. You changing is really more of a byproduct of the whole thing. And besides, another perk of being my doll is that you'll be able to do as you please once I transform you. Witches are above being judgmental, especially to those who help them,"
"What are you talking about?" Pete not fully understanding what his sister was getting at.
"I'm saying you can do whatever you want while you look like me," Emily stated, still searching diligently inside her backpack, "You can borrow some of my clothes, drink beer, or even fool around a little bit. Whatever you want,"
"Emily, I don't want to fool around with your body," Pete squinted his eyes in disgust, "That's so gross, dude. Why would you even say that?"
"I'm just saying, Pete. Besides..." Emily smiled, as she pulled a hand mirror out of her bag, "You might change your mind when it happens. I've seen dolls go wild with their new bodies, no matter who they have turned into," Upon closer inspection, Pete noticed that something was off about the mirror. Instead of the usual non-reflective side of a mirror, there was an exact copy of the mirror from the other side. Looking almost as if someone welded two mirrors together for some bizarre reason.
"What the hell is that?" Pete candidly asked.
"This, my simple minded friend, is a Gemina," Emily said, as she looked closely at the mirror, inspecting for any cracks or scratches, "You see, not all spells can just be performed by a witch herself. Sometimes we need special tools, and this, is one of them. Now, stand up Pete," Pete begrudgingly did as he was told, currently standing a couple feet away from his sister. "Now," Emily said, trying to relax, "In order for this spell to work, you need to stare directly into the mirror,"
"Sure whatever," Pete shrugged, "Does it say something about you that you're fine with turning your brother into a copy of you?"
"Not really," Emily ignored her brother and closed her eyes. After what seemed like a full minute, Emily opened her eyes. And if Pete hadn't be staring directly at the mirror, he would have noticed his big sister's eye growing bright green. "Nostram Finire!" Emily yelled, Almost making Pete lose his focus on his reflection. A small crack then appeared on Pete's side of the mirror. As Pete tried to get a closer look at the crack, it grew bigger. It began to branch out, cracks spreading their way randomly across the reflective surface. The cracks grew more and more, until Pete's face was unrecognizable in a segmented mess. The cracks turned to shards, as bits of glass came pouring out of the mirror. But instead of empty space, behind the broken glass was another mirror. And with the new mirror came a new reflection for Pete.
"Oh my god," Pete was bewildered, he couldn't believe what he was seeing. Nothing of the original Pete was anywhere to be found. He was just another Emily now. Every slight movement brought waves of alien sensation. Pete tried to remain still, not ready to feel anymore strange jiggling until he had figured out what was really going on. Pete looked up at his sister in desperation, hoping to get some kind of calm reassurance, but she was almost as speechless as him. After what seemed like an impossibly long, awkward silence, Emily finally said... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
