John has packed a few things into a backpack. Thinking about it, he chuckles to himself.
"I have no idea how I am going to get back here." Thinking about this, this was actually a serious problem. This lamp was the only way for you to get back to size. But then again, it was like dad said. Taking a risk is the only way to truly live. Otherwise he would never have meet Johns mother. John shook off the risk. And besides, these were his friends. They knew John like a book, cover to cover. He remembered all the times they had been together ...
When they were in 5th grade and he told Marylin he liked her and she had laughed him off. And again in 7th grade. And a third in Junior year. But each time she would apologize, and each time they would reassure they were and always had been friends. Then John asked about what about the future, to which Marylin replied that would depend upon if he was ever going to ask her out again.
In 7th grade he knocked out Dave Farrington for harassing Alice, for which he was rewarded with a kiss, a moment which Alice later joked drove her to join the human extinction project. She also rewarded him with a cake, which you appreciated after tearing your achilles that football season. (But what was important in that situation was that you scored the game winning touchdown, running the last 7 years on a bum leg.)
8th grade when a very young and very short Christina who had yet to hit puberty asked John to help her with her conditioning. Back then if you had told Christina she would spring up to six foot, and wind up with the body of an olympian with talent to match, in not two, not three but four sports, she would have no other option but to have her mind positively blown.
Senior year when Shannon Jackson bailed on him for prom, and instead John took two of his best friends who weren't even planning on going, Deanna and Nicole. They danced all night, even being voted both best and worst dancers of the night on two separate election by the rest of the class. Upon winning Prom King (Something that shocked a lot of other guys at the time, but absolutely every girl in your class of 700 had a unanimous opinion on) John refused to go up unless Deanna and Nicole were allowed up too. The queen elect; one Marylin (Because how could she not?) was all for it. And even to this day, that was the picture of the group chat. (Albeit with pictures of Christina and Alice cropped in, as Alice had elected not to go, and Christina was busy at a Soccer tournament.)
John shook of the fear. You knew these girls, and when they found you in your current situation, they would help you. So John packed. extra clothes, provisions, 90 feet of bungee rope with some grapple hooks (to help you get up if you needed to) , some medicine, a blanket, an emergency inhaler with several extra cans (just in case you failed to draw attention after a few days), a hatchet and your bike, which you were going to ride there and stash away.
John also took an envelope. the plan was that when they would catch him and ask "Where was my invitation?" After all, it was Deanna's Birthday, and she deserved all of her friends there.
Dad and mom were gone for the weekend, so bringing the lamp and his bag, John opened up his garage door around a foot give or take, he plugged the lamp into a wall outlet. it was one of those lamps you see in the pixar logo, where you can turn it. The design was that one switch turned the lamp on to be a lamp, and another switch turned on the feature of the lamp, shrinking you. You shrank your bike first. Tapping the switch, a green grid sprang out and covered the bike, slowly it became smaller and smaller, stopping at what John called natural resize point. Things he touched were around an inch when he was shrunken, as he tested with some books, they felt the same size in his hands at one inch as they did when he stood seventy two inches.
Finally he prepared himself. This would be the 5th time he had shank himself. the first was when his roommate let him use it to go spy on the girls across the hall. The second through fourth had been testing the lamp and preparing for his adventure. There was a lot of free time when you were unable to find a job, and dad all but flat out refused to let him work on the farm for another summer.
He flicked it on and felt the grid encompass him, and start to pull on him.
It pulled him into himself, until it stopped him at approximately one inch tall. He got on his bike and started the ride down his long driveway. The ride wouldn't take more than forty-five minutes to an hour at the most. As John turned down the hill he sighed in awe of his surroundings. Looking around at this size was something he would never get used to. It gave old things a new spin. He had stayed around half a day in his house navigating avoiding detection from his mom and her book club. Another he had made his way to his old tree fort and took a look out across his pastures. He saw then what he saw when he was a kid, An expansive and never ending world for him to explore. And a third he had spent testing his resistances to things like heat and cold and his metabolisms change at this size. Which he found to be a bit quicker, but nothing like he had thought it would be. in his practices, he had found that the normal rules that should have applied didn't effect him. There was no weight issue be it being to dense or to light, no rapid loss of heat nor rapid freezing nor an issue with the size of the oxygen in his lungs. But whatever, that would be more fun for him, less problems to worry about.
As he arrived at Deanna's house John gazed upon it. Unlike his families small one floor house, Deanna (Along with most of the girls) lived in rather large houses, their families being rather wealthy on average. Deannas had a gate, which is where he stopped for a minute. He pulled out the copy of the party invitations.
"Fuck!" John exclaimed. He had mad a terrible mistake. The party was...
(Author notes- I know this is backstory, and the same across all three options I am a free member so I don't get to add third options all that often but its just to explain that these are good friends, and John is a simple man and has practiced a bit for this; because lets be honest if you had a shrink ray and had a sleepover to crash, you'd want to be prepared and know your limits. I would anyway. Thank you for slogging through it, hope it was bearable at the very least. Also thanks to Tex for letting me add onto his story. Now for what we all came here for, GIANTESS CONTENT!)
