As I was staring at the planet, still shocked at the speed of which we arrived, the radio crackled to life as a voice lilted through. "Unidentified spaceship. Your ship doesn't appear to be a part of any scheduled arrivals. Who are you and what is your business with Kich" The voice was female with a powerful tone that made me pause before responding. Before I could say anything, Erin spoke " Greetings. Sending all requested information now. Please hold"
"Wait, what are you doing?" I spoke, completely baffled that the ship AI took control of the situation
"The Erimosi provided us with data to be transmitted to whoever we encounter first. This will spare us the trouble of having to explain who and what we are, setting us on the right path towards a potential alliance between them and humanity."
"Well thanks for telling me that now. That would have been useful information before hand" I grumbled. I hate being out of the loop. "I'm already upset about the fact that there is classified information, waiting for the right moment to be revealed to me"
"My apologies" Erin spoke "I will be sure to notify you in the future if there is pertinent information to know"
There was a brief moment of silence. We waited to see what the scout ship would say next. To say I was nervous would be an understatement. First contact with a new species is a once in a lifetime thing. You only get one chance to make a good first impression and I didn't want to screw this up. Finally, the radio came to life.
"I see. So the rumors are true that the Erimosi discovered another species." The voice spoke "This is something we will need to talk to the queen about. Please set your vector to this heading and follow us" Coordinates flashed on the screen, which I quickly input into the console. The ship turned and headed towards the equator of the planet. As we got closer, a ship flew in front of us, leading the way to our landing. It was a skinny ship with twin cannons on the front. By my guess, this was just a bog standard scout ship.
As we flew closer to the surface, I could make out different cities and towns that dotted the landscape. The terrain was indeed mostly desert, but besides the Kichi structures, there was many oasis's inbetween each major town. Even if you managed to get lost in the desert, it wouldn't be hard to find water and shade. Looking forward, I gasped suddenly. In a seemingly giant oasis, there was an enormous cathedral. With spires that looked miles high in the sky, I couldn't help but stare in awe at their construction. Surrounding the cathedral were many buildings, most of which looked like they were connected to some kind of shop stand. It was here I finally got my first glimpse of the kichi species. The streets of this area were completely full of them as they slithered about, going in and out of different shops. It was a strange thing seeing a completely different species other than humans. I hadn't even gotten use to the Erimosi yet. Closing my eyes, I relaxed and took deep breaths.
"First impressions" I whispered to myself "This has to be a good first impression"
We finally arrived at the port area of the cathedral. Landing the ship next to the scout who brought us in, I walked to the bow of the ship, waiting for Erin to drop the ramp. Checking the readings, it was clear the air here was safe for humans. However, the thought of hypnosis burned in the back of my head, reminding me to keep my helmet on at all times.
"I am detecting elevated levels of stress" Erin piped in on the helmet radio "Do not worry. I will be with you every step of the way and will provide you with any information I find." I said nothing as the ramp lowered and the sunlight hit my visor.
"Everything will be alright" Erin said
