Walking back into her dorm building after an early-morning class, Miranda trudged up the stairs. The elevator hadn't worked in ages. Five foot even and slightly heavy, the redhead didn't turn heads as she passed, but she was pretty to those without unrealistic standards. Arriving at the third floor, hers, she ran into her roommate, Felicia. Her exact opposite, Felicia was six foot something, fit as a fiddle, and dressed in lightweight bicycling clothes. She flicked her braided black hair over here shoulder.
"Hey there, early bird." She said to Miranda, "How was econ?"
Sighing, Miranda responded, "Awful. I swear that old fart has the most boring voice on earth."
"Well, here's something to cheer you up." Felicia tossed a small box her way. "Someone tried to shove that under our door, but it got suck. It's got your name on it, though."
"Uh, thanks..." She said, eyeing the packet suspiciously in her hands.
"Anyway, I've gotta go get those miles in before class. Have fun!"
Inspecting the box, Miranda made her way to her and Felicia's door. The parcel was kinda heavy, like it had a phone or something inside. It was about that size, too. Inside her dorm room, she tossed her bag onto her bunk (the bottom one) and found a letter opener on Felicia's desk. The box was covered in tape, but finally it ripped open, a heavy object falling to the floor, along with a small piece of paper.
Picking it up, Miranda saw it was done kind of... Remote? It only had a handful of buttons on it, but also a little touch screen. She grabbed the slip of paper. It looked like instructions, but in a language she'd never seen before. It had little icons, though. Confusing ones.
It showed the remote being pointed at a horse, then at a person. Then it showed... A centaur? And a horse-looking person? Another row just showed "person plus person equals person" but with indecipherable annotations on the last icon.
Scratching her head, Miranda...
