"We can go back the way we came, through the forest and the mist and chill. Take our chances with the darkness," Steven said. He shivered in the chill.
Laura shook her head. "No. We've just run from there, run from the unknown. How can we go back?" She gripped his shoulder.
Steven sighed, ran his hand down her cheek. "If we go on towards the light, we will still be running towards the unknown. We don't know that the light holds any promise or help." He wanted to offer her comfort, the assurance that they would be safe, but he was still trying to convince himself. "We've made it this far. We've stopped and no harm has come to us. Maybe the darkness isn't the evil we fear."
Laura pulled away toward the path. The grey mist swirled around her. "I'm going on Steven. I can't run back. Whatever awaits us in the light has to be better than this."
