"What kind of darkness was it exactly, Steven?"

"I told you I didn't pay a lot of attention, I thought they were just joking. Only when I stepped here did I realise that there is something wrong whit this place."

"If there is darkness, I can't see it, I can sense something though."

"Darkness can take any form, beware of it. What we cal good may be the darkest thing." Steven remembered the man's words as he spoke, thoughtfully.

"Who told you that? Surely, you could never make something like this up, your brain is too small for this." Both of them laughed as she kept walking where they last saw the light.

"We all got our secrets, Laura. Just a man said it."

"I believe there's more to the story but of course, you won't talk, will you?"

Laura looked at him challenging, Steven didn't say anything, his face giving any nothing. Laura figured it wasn't his fault, and he was right everyone had their own secret. Afterall, she had managed to hide hers from him until now.

Laura squinted her eyes to see the light, it was still there but very faint. She knew something was very wrong, but she didn't say anything for she didn't know how Steven would react.

"We need to hurry. It's fading."

Both of them sprinted towards the light, ignoring the increased rustling of the leaves and the mist. As they neared the light, the mist cleared and what they saw left them speechless.

"This can't be happening. . . " Laura spoke, slowly, her voice wavering.

"What the hell is this?! Laura, what is this?" Steven asked her, her face filled with terror, her eyes wide open. She knew something that he didn't.

The walls were an impenetrable dark grey stone, covered with moss and towered a good twenty feet above Laura and Steven. There was one entrance, a large path, with similar walls continuing in different paths.

"Laura, what's this?"

"A . . . A l-labyrinth, a cursed maze. . . "

"There is no way we are going in there! What do you mean cursed?"

"This whole place is cursed, I can see it, I can sense it! This maze is a monster, it feeds on our souls, our deepest regrets. It will destroy both of us. That is only what I have been told, there's so much more that I can sense. . . " Laura spoke grimly.

"Wait, how do you know all this?" Steven moved in front of Laura, looking at her, questioningly, a mixture of emotions on his face.

"We've all got our secrets, Steven, we've all got our secrets." Laura didn't meet Steven's eyes, not once, her head kept forward, her eyes set on the entrance.

"If, if, what you say is true, then let's go back."

Laura strongly gripped his hand as she whispered, "We. Can't."

"What? Why?" Steven looked back at the forest and his knees faltered seeing the sight, a wall that never seemed to finish was there, it continued high in the sky, the mist hiding its true length. Steven stared again at Laura, how did she know? She never even looked back and she spoke as if she already knew this would happen.
