Melisandre

    by: AnonWriter Author IconMail Icon
Even after all this time living here, you still hate Dragonstone with a passion. The storms frighten you and keep you awake at night Even in the middle of summer, the cold still bites, with slightly chilly weather being the best that you can hope for. You also can't stand nearly anyone else on this island. The soldiers and sailors are crass, loud and disgusting. They terrify you with their drunken leerings and vulgar remarks. You also don't get along with nearly any of the female servants, ignoring you on a good day and being spiteful and mean to you for no reason on a bad one. The only thing that keeps you from stowing away on the first ship back to the mainland of Westeros and civilization is your loyalty to your lady, Selyse Baratheon, and to the two other handmaidens who serve her alongside you.

Life on Dragonstone was hugely changed however, when the Red Priestess from Asshai arrived. The Lady Melisandre, the Red Woman, had seemingly come out of nowhere, but soon the whole island seemed to bend to her whim. You had watched from the castle as she started to burn the effigies of the New Gods on the beaches, and had watched as more and more people joined her in front of the flames. This hurt you to no end. You were a devoted follower of the Seven, and briefly considered being a septa before being convinced by your family that your life would benefit more greatly from being the handmaiden to the lady of a Great House. The burning of the Gods and Holy Scriptures, and the sermons the Red Woman spoke in front of the flames ran contrary to all you believed in and all that you were.

You could also feel a strange aura exuding from Melisandre. Not just the general mystery about her that everyone felt, but towards you specifically. When walking past her through the halls, she would stop and watch you go by. When in crowded rooms, she seemed to only look at you, staring right through you with her piercing eyes.
One night, as you and the other handmaidens readied Lady Selyse for bed, she asked the three of you if you were loyal to Lady Melisandre and the Lord of Light. Selyse had been one of the first to join the side of Melisandre, not long after her husband, Stannis, had. The other two handmaidens quickly and fearfully offered their services and lives to both Melisandre and the Lord of Light. You however, despite your better sense of judgement, had chosen to stay true to yourself and your beliefs, saying to Selyse that you will always be loyal to her and to Stannis, but that you can't say the same of Melisandre and the Lord of Light. Selyse had remained silent, nodded politely, and dismissed all three of you.

After this, you and the other handmaidens retired to your rooms. It had only been a few hour when a guard woke you, in the dead of night, saying that Lady Selyse was urgently requesting your assistance and to come at once. You got out of bed and followed, wearing only a thin, white nightgown. You had tried to put on more, but the guard insisted that there was no time. You followed him through the castle and noticed that you were not heading towards Lady Selyse's room. You were about to ask him why this was when he stopped in front of a door and told you to enter.

You opened the door to see...
