This choice: Time Traveling Medallion • Go Back...Chapter #3Time Traveling Medallion by: Michelle As Tyler and Annabelle watched the real estate agent drive away they embraced in a hug. They just finished signing the final paperwork to own the old farm house. It was their dream to own such a huge acreage and beautiful historical home. They were eager to start their more relaxed life in a rural community. They both had enough craziness from their big city life and wanted a change.
Over the next few months, Tyler and Annabelle both worked together to live off their land. As they enjoyed their slower lifestyle, they both started to notice strange things that would happen now and then. Both seemed to act differently from time-to-time. It was like their personality would change for a little while. They both had episodes where they were suddenly motivated to do something abnormal. Annabelle was surprised to see Tyler wake up out of a heavy sleep one night. He ran outside to the barn and climbed up to the roof. He removed the pole with a tall metal wind vane. A few minutes later, he climbed back into bed. Annabelle watched in surprise as a storm suddenly hit. A lightning bolt hit a pole that was about 50 feet from the barn instead and didn’t do any harm. Had Tyler not moved the taller wind vane on top of the barn, the lightning would have hit it instead. The barn would have probably burned down. To make matters even more confusing, Tyler awoke the next morning with no recollection of suddenly running down to the barn and removing the tall metal pole.
Another night while they were eating dinner, Annabelle did something strange. They were having a polite conversation about their day when she suddenly stood up confused. She grabbed her breasts with wide eyes and said, “…Just my luck! I ended up as the wife!”
Tyler was confused watching Annabelle act so strange, “Of course you are my wife? Who else would you be? Annabelle had a red face as she held both hands on her breasts still, “Uh…I just really need to something…Husband. You are my husband right?”
Tyler laughed, “What is going on? Are you okay Annabelle?”
She got a determined face and said, “I know this sounds weird, but I gotta go. I’ll be back in a few hours! I just need some time alone…Hubby.” Annabelle’s face seemed to twinge at calling Tyler hubby. She then ran out the door. Tyler watched in amazement as Annabelle got into her car and drove off. He knew when Annabelle needed her space that he didn’t question it. A few hours later, Annabelle came back and slipped into bed. The next morning, she couldn’t remember leaving the house. They were shocked to see on the news that a ‘Good Samaritan’ had saved the day. A man had driven off the road not far from their home and had a heart attack. He told the newspapers that a woman with blonde hair and a blue dress showed up out of nowhere to give him CPR. Once he was revived, she drove off into the night without even saying her name. Tyler and Annabelle both knew that she was a blonde and was wearing a blue dress last night. Annabelle had no memory of giving anybody CPR. She didn’t even know CPR. The couple decided to shrug it off as another strange coincidence.
A few weeks later, things finally started to make sense. Tyler was cleaning out the attic when he came across an old wooden box stuffed in a rafter. The inscription on the box read, ‘Time Traveling Medallion.’ Inside the box was another inscription that read, “Beware. Wishes come true.” Tyler held the medallion up. There appeared to be multiple time settings on it ranging from minutes to years. Tyler wondered what this strange medallion was? He thought, “Time traveling? Wishes? What is this thing?” Tyler just happened to be thinking about the tree stump in the front yard. It would be a 100 year old tree by now if the prior owners didn’t cut it down. It would have been a beautiful tree and provided shade for the barn. Tyler wondered why anybody would have ever cut such a nice tree down. Tyler laughed to himself, “Maybe this medallion is magical? Maybe it can grant my wish?” Tyler spun the medallion to 5 minutes. While holding the mysterious medallion he muttered out-loud, “I wish that tree was still there.”
Tyler’s point of view was instantly different. Where moments before he was in the attic, he was now standing in their front lawn looking at an enormous oak tree. Tyler was confused as he looked around. He recognized his house. But where the Oak tree stump was previously, there was now a huge Oak tree suddenly there. Tyler was amazed and thought, “Wow! Maybe this medallion does grant wishes!” He looked over at the driveway to see a 1970’s style car. He also noticed the driveway was now dirt and not paved. Tyler wondered what was going on? He looked down and saw he was wearing overalls. He was suddenly taller and much stronger. He flexed his huge muscles thinking, “Wow! All this work has given me some pipes!” He was amazed at how different his body seemed. He then heard a voice from behind him saying, “Daddy? Why are you cutting that tree down? I thought you were going to build me a treehouse?”
Tyler was surprised to see a 5 year old girl standing there wearing a 1970’s style dress. Tyler wondered who this little girl was. Tyler looked up to see a tree removal service van pulling up. A group of 5 men wearing 1970s clothes and hair hopped out. The man who was in charge asked, “Hey Ted. You ready for us to cut this tree down?” Tyler was even more confused thinking. "Ted? Why is this guy calling me Ted? And who was is little girl standing next to me?" Tyler replied, “Uh…Just give me a second…” Tyler ran up to the old car and used the side mirror to see his reflection. He was shocked to see a different man’s face. He recognized the face as the prior owner of the house, Ted. Tyler started putting two-and-two together. He remembered the ‘Time Traveling Medallion’ and couldn’t believe it actually worked. He rubbed Ted’s beard with a smile, “Wow! I’m Ted in the 1970s now! I can actually change the past!”
Tyler ran back to the tree removal crew and said, “Sorry guys. I had second thoughts. I love this tree. My daughter wants me to build her a tree house. I can’t cut it down!” Tyler reached into his pocket and pulled out Ted’s wallet. He grabbed five 20 dollar bills and handed it to the man, “Sorry for your troubles. And if I ever call you again, please don’t come back no matter how much I beg. I love this tree and don’t want it cut down!” The worker held the 100 dollars and was amazed, “Wow! This was three times the amount it was going to cost to cut the tree down!” Tyler realized it was now 1970 and he overpaid the man. He didn’t care though. Ted’s daughter came running up and hugged him, “Thank you Daddy! I can’t wait for you to build me a tree house!” Tyler felt strange hugging the girl back but knew it was Ted’s daughter. He watched the tree removal crew drive away. He looked at his watch and remembered setting the medallion for 5 minutes. He wondered how long he had been back in 1970.
Suddenly, his point of view changed again. He was back in the attic. It was the present time. He looked down at his body and recognized his own. He then looked out the window and saw the huge Oak tree was still standing tall. It even had remnants of an old tree house. He celebrated, “I did it! The tree is back!”
