Your time is running out. You'll never have this chance again. Either you pull the trigger on whoever walks through that door, or you're finished. But are you really? Can't you just put the gun down and make like nothing is wrong? You left something in the lab and came early to get it. You were just looking for Professor Montana. There are any number of pretenses you could be here under, but this is the moment.
Your finger pulls on the trigger. In a flash, the unknown visitor disappears. Completely, totally vanished. It all happened so quickly, so instantaneously, you never saw who it was. It could have been anyone. A student. A janitor. The professor herself. There's no evidence of their identity or of their existence. The door closes itself under its own springs, leaving you alone with an unseen entity.
That's if they're still alive at all. They're gone. Blown away like dust in the blink of an eye. Are you sure this isn't a death ray? How powerful is this machine? Was this normal behavior or did you dial the strength too high? You return the knob to its weakest setting, careful to avoid setting it off accidentally. You don't want to suddenly end up like they did.
Death ray. Death ray. The thought echoes in your head while you stand still awestruck. Whoever you just shot is in serious danger. If they're alive, they're so small they can't possibly survive. No one will know where they are. What's going to happen to them?
