Chie wasn't going to just lose her shoe like that. If it landed in the river that would be one thing, but just in a pack of bushes? No sweat!
Without hesitation, Chie strode directly into the bushes, and was immediately pricked and poked at by the thorns on the jagged branches of the plants.
"Ow! These things are pretty sharp," she winced, sucking her injured hand. With the thorns brushing up all around her, Chie tucked her hands into her jacket sleeves and crouched down to the ground before continuing. "Better find it fast."
Going close to the ground made it slower, but far less painful. Chie could still feel the branches tugging at her clothes as she passed by, but at least her face, arms, and legs were no longer in danger.
After a few minutes, Chie had combed the bushes, but had not found her shoe. Crawling back to the center of the thicket, she was very frustrated.
"Grr, where is it!" she yelled, throwing her head skyward.
And that, as it turned out was all she needed to do.
"Ah!" she gasped.
Her shoe had landed right in the middle of one of the bushes and was caught by its branches. Now that she knew where it was, she wasted no time in kicking it with her covered foot and putting her shoe back on her other foot.
"Well, no need to sit around here any longer," she said to herself, springing to her feet. "Time to get the heck outta here."
Eager to get out of the thorny trap as quickly as she could, she plowed on through the bushes again, not caring how much she got poked along the way, considering it yet another challenge in her path. Unfortunately, as she did so, she ended up snared in more branches than before, holding her in place.
"Argh, come on!" she yelled, forcing her way forward until soon enough she was free. Chie, seeing her shoe back with her in one piece, felt very satisfied with herself, but then blinked as she saw that the stubborn shrubberies had dealt one last parting shot. She was shocked to see that-
