The other player certainly seemed absorbed in the game, but Mackenzie figured she wouldn't have any objections to a second player joining in. Still, it never hurt to make sure.
"Hey, you mind if I hop in?" Mackenzie asked, momentarily snapping the other woman out of her reverie.
She turned to face Mackenzie, giving the redhead a better view of her potential gaming partner. Everything about her wardrobe suggested she wasn't terribly concerned with appearances. Her black hair was tied back in a ponytail, her admittedly pretty blue eyes were framed by sleek glasses, and the rest of her slender face showed no signs of makeup. Her clothing consisted of a t-shirt and baggy jeans, making her form a bit of a mystery.
"Hm, guess so. Just don't suck and get me killed." the girl said, motioning to the unused gun at the machine. "I don't need an amateur messing me up."
"Hey, I'm no slouch at this stuff." Mackenzie said defensively, picking up the gun and taking up position beside her new partner. "Heck, I bet I'm better than you."
"Bet, huh?" the other girl said, a hint of mischief in her voice. "That's bold. Wrong, but bold. Wanna put your money where your mouth is?"
"Are you suggesting a contest?" Mackenzie asked. "Because I don't have any decent money on me to bet with."
"I am. Whoever has the better score at the end of each level wins. If we both die, we both lose." the girl explained. "As for money, we can bet something else. How about..."
