The risk of slipping in the dark shower was a bit too high for Mackenzie's tastes. Last thing she needed was to be found passed out naked after hitting her head. With the water off, Mackenzie groped blindly for her towel to dry off and get dressed. Just as her fingers found the fluffy fabric of her towel, however, the quiet of the dark room was shattered by a piercing siren, startling Mackenzie.
It took a second to recognize the noise as the dorm fire alarm. Mackenzie let out a frustrated sigh, bemoaning her luck. The redhead was at first planning to simply ignore the alarm and get dressed before heading outside, but then a small voice in the back of her mind spoke up. What if the lights going out was connected to the fire alarm? This might not be a drill...
The idea of running into the hall and out of the dorm building altogether in just her towel was embarrassing, but Mackenzie would rather look silly than burned. Quickly throwing her towel around herself, Mackenzie carefully guided herself to the door back to the hallway, letting the light from under the door guide her. Stepping out into the hall, Mackenzie saw the rest of her floor's residents already filing out, most clearly roused from their slumber by the shrill alarm. Quietly slipping in at the back of the group, Mackenzie followed the herd down the hall to the exit doors.
We'll just stand outside for a few minutes while they make sure everything's safe. Then I can go back in and dry off and get dressed. Mackenzie thought to herself, trying to ease her nerves as she came to terms with stepping outside in nothing but a towel.
